New lyrics: Shinn or Group effort?, Ned: Please stay out of this thread Options

Do you guys think Shinn wrote the lyrics or was it a collaborative effort like The Gracious Few? I'm hoping it was a bit of both. I'm still not sure if Shinn was the primary writer for Unified Theory? Anyone know?

I say anyone who wants to contribute should. Unless there's some sort of concept to whole album lyrically then it should maybe be one person for cohesiveness. But even then, all four could collaborate and work together on it. But I was always music first, lyrics second guy so I'm not too hung up on who writes what.

this is what i am getting at. I just assumed its the songwriters job. Sure, they are all artists but they all express their creativity in the way that they know how. I remember an interview where Pat expressed his frustrations with people always asking him the meaning of Live songs and replying something like "dude, dont ask the bass player"... I always just assumed that ed wrote all of lives lyrics and that when we talk about how ed took over control of writing, that he took over control of writing everything, including the music and all that shit.

I assumed that when live was at their best, ed would come up with a song, meaning the lyrics and basic melody, then they would all go into the studio and work to make it an actual song with everyone discussing what works and what doesn't. I would imagine this would lead to arguments and all sorts of drama, but at the end of the day it was all driven by passion and it showed. Whereas by the time sfbm came around, ed wanted total control and the others just sat it out and let it happen, and we know how that turned out.

Maybe I'm wrong, but im assuming that shinn is a great lyricist and this is what he's there for. But then again chad has a knack for writing some pretty deep shit at least on a personal, informative way, so who knows?
