I thought the sanctions sounded a bit hard ... as in making people transfer who had done nothing wrong, disrupting their lives and their education etc... An entire clean out of the university/sports department of anyone who was even remotely involved, right from the top to the bottom, that way no one who is left or brought in as replacements can be involved in any way and don't have to wear the sanctions.

But for those people who were involved then no sympathy what so ever for any types of punishments that are handed down to them.

They aren't forcing any kids to transfer. All current scholarship players will retain their scholarships as long as they meet the academic/athletic requirements. Players however are free to transfer to other schools without any penalty.

Well not forcing, but aren't they pretty much saying "if you stay here you aren't playing" ? That's sort of forcing a kid's hand in a way. I mean it's good that they're giving them AN option and all, just think if you were a kid with your heart set on Penn state for years and suddenly told you have to go elsewhere if you want to play because of some fuckwits ruining things for me that I had no part on control in - you'd be pretty pissed.

I know that is the larger picture and compared to the kids that were abused it's basically first world problems, but rather than sanctions and such I'd just be taking everyone involved and burning them at the stake doling out criminal penalties and start afresh with a new administration back at Penn state. But that's just me I guess.
