Cannot fucking wait for this! Alien is my favourite picture of all time and when i found out that ridley scott was coming back for this prequel/non-prequel i creamed myself.

I always wanted to know who the race of space-jockey's that appeared in the original were, where they came from and why they sent a warning signal out into space NOT to come down to the planet ,which of course the crew of the Nostromo interpreted as an SOS so naturally went to investigate and you all know what happened (and if you don't then you really need to watch Alien).

What I loved about that movie was how Scott allowed the film to breathe, from the very opening title sequence, to the introduction of the Nostromo vessel itself as a character and then of course the 'waking' scene of the crew, it drew you into a silently poetic dream which brilliantly turns into a nightmare. Compare that with the fourth film (which i must admit i like as a stand alone, goofy french art-house guilty pleasure, but it really doesnt belong in the franchise) with all the rapid cuts and bullshit cheap dialogue and no sense of wonder. The second film may have been more frantic and mayhem but Cameron did it properly by making nearly the first half of that movie as slow and suspensful as possible so that when the action did hit it was a surprise. And any big studio sci-fi / horror production these days are so fucking hyperactive and loud and devoid of suspense from the opening shot to the last. Blah.

I really hope this film can re-capture some of that magic and i know im setting myself up for failure by being so excited but hey, no one liked Alien when it first came out so who knows.

Here's one of the Trailer's for those who might not know what I'm talking about:

I enjoyed it. Saw it in IMAX 3D, so that helped.

I have a history in the film industry so for what it is worth the effects were pretty damn epic and the acting was pretty damn superb. The score was very good too.

It was lacking something though. I will have to digest it a little more.

I think what got a lot of people upset was that the "engineers" never talked or answered the pressing questions towards the end of the movie. I was hoping for some profound answer or at least some answer and instead the "engineer" just killed everyone. Maybe that was his answer smile.gif

They did leave the door open for Prometheus 2. One question that kept being asked was "They created us, but who created them?" and in the end you see Shaw flying to find that out.

...really??

Besides Fassbender I wouldn't really say anyone else put in an overly great performance. Even the usually fantastic Idris Elba was just ho-hum. I mean they had to work with what they were given obviously, but the acting is certainly not an area of the movie I'd have said is a strong point.

As for the above analysis, I've read that too .. definitely some interesting ideas there. I don't think it is completely accurate and follows that strict idea, it takes bits and pieces from that, but the overall idea he's presenting I don't think is what they were strictly only going for. One part he missed which I found odd as he mentions that the black goo turns into a snake like creature based on the humans entering the room and the way the "changed things". And of course a snake in the bible represents bla bla... What he seems to forget there is that I think there is a much simpler explanation for that. Sure the black goo reacted when the room opened and the environment was changed, it caused the goo to begin to come to life and spill out (much the same way the eggs in Alien lay dormant for god knows how long before the presence of Kane kicked them into gear). But a brief shot was shown at the base of the containers, in the mud were some regular worms crawling about. I think it's a lot more likely the black goo spilled to the bottom and went straight to the worms and suddenly you have a wormy monster thing.
