I've been streaming their new album, Neck of the Woods, the last days and I can't get enough. SSPU deliver on their 3rd full album. If you like the older stuff then you will like this as well. It's the sonic goodness that I come to expect from SSPU. I need to see them in concert soon.

I'm thinking this album will be my favorite of 2012, unless Live releases one this year (doubtful).

I've only seen some clips of them perform live on youtube and such, but I liked it. Their MTV Unplugged show that airs from time to time on Palladia is fantastic. His voice sounds great.

So far it has a good chance of getting into my top 10 for the year. I love how their sound is constantly evolving, but not straying far from who they are. When i first heard them (Carnavus), a friend described the album as "The best Smashing Pumpkins album we've heard in a long time." I got a good chuckle out of that. Neck of the woods definitely has more of a shoegaze sound, and I can't help but wonder if they've been listening to a lot of My Bloody Valentine lately.

anyway, here are the albums I'm loving so far for the year (in relative order, favorites first):

Marriages - Kitsune
Sigur Rós - Valtari
If These Trees Could Talk - Red Forest
Pigs - You Ruin Everything
Pelican - Ataraxia/Taraxis
The Saddest Landscape - After The Lights
Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again
Torche - Harmonicraft
Silversun Pickups - Neck of the Woods
mewithoutYou - Ten Stories
Samuel Jackson 5 - s/t

Outside of a few bands on your list (Silversun, Kiwanuku and Sigur Ros) I've never heard of them. I'll have to do some research. I'm always looking to find good music.

I love finding new music. smile.gif Here are some samples (all off of their 2012 releases). Let me know if you like anything, maybe I can suggest some other bands!!! feel free to throw some my way too.

Marriages is a side project of Red Sparowes (really cool post-rock band). everything Emma Ruth Rundle does is pure gold, imho.

If These Trees Could Talk is an Ohio based post-rock band. They just got back from a tour in Europe and should have a bunch of US dates coming up.

Pigs is a side-project of Unsane. Similar thrashing sound. Unsane also has a new album out this year, which is really good, but its hard to follow their last album, Visqueen, which will rip your face off. I'm really digging this Pigs album. I hope they keep it going.

Pelican is an awesome instrumental metal band. For fans of sludge, doom, and post-rock. Each album has been consistently good.

The Saddest Landscape is a band I found very recently. For fans of post-hardcore and noise.

Torche
Great rock/metal/post-rock band.

mwY is a Philadelphia based rock band (woohoo, more Pennsylvania boys!). Their early stuff was really heavy and Aaron's vocals focused on a lot of spoken word and yelling. Some later efforts have been more relaxed with a lot of folk sounds. The lyrics are influenced heavily by Jewish, Christian and Muslim themes, but regardless if you are a devout religious individual or an atheist, I think you can enjoy the songs. Very talented band.

The Samuel Jackson 5
A Norwegian instrumental rock band. Great talent. If you like prog, experimental or post-rock, check them out.
