That was a truly great interview with Ed. He seemed authentic, happy, funny, humble and down to earth. He wasn't hiding behind any answers - he seemed sincere. I enjoyed hearing his thoughts in his answers. He didn't portray his relationship with Live in any kind of controversial way. Now that's the kind of Ed I have admired and respected. Keep it up, man. Go on and prove me wrong about you.

I guess. I mean, our standards must be pretty low for him now when that passes for a great interview. You're right, at least he didn't portray Live in any bad way. I expected him to say something profound when asked what makes him feel alive, not that he likes deep sea fishing and of course coffee.

I was comparing it to a few interviews he did where you could just tell by his subtle mannerisms that he was being deceptive. This one seemed pretty sincere and likeable, which I think is a distinction from what I have seen from him as of late. I have been trying really hard to be objective and open to seeing positive change when it comes to Ed.

Yeah, I guess. It's pretty easy to seem sincere when you really aren't saying too much. I get it, he likes coffee. I believe him. I don't really give a shit though. What made him and Live so interesting were his (what I thought) sincere words about deep topics like religion, politics, the world, war, etc. I don't need to hear that all the time and it's nice to learn a little about the person beyond that, but come on man. Tell us about what inspires you these days. If it's Christianity, then tell us. Even if I'm not into it, I'd respect his thoughts. He seems to be so inspired by God these days but never talks about it much in mainstream media, only to Christian media. Makes him seem really insincere. When asked what makes him feel alive, he had the perfect opportunity to say so, only we got coffee, deep sea fishing, photography, etc. Whatever.

I was a little surprised (but only a little) that he didn't mention prayer or his faith as one of the things that makes him feel alive.
I don't think it makes him seem insincere that he doesn't mention his love of Jesus to regular media, it just makes me think he's scared out of his mind to be officially branded a Christian rocker.
he's down with it when surrounded by Christians, because it's all love and brotherhood. but when there are non-Christians around, he's like "well, yeah, Jesus is good... I mean... but I like fishing"
like he's afraid to be made fun of.
which isn't insincerity as much as insecurity, I guess.
which is a shame.

but I was impressed that he didn't even flinch when the interviewer called him the "ex" lead singer of Live. (as an interviewer, I would've said "former", in spite of what I know, it sounds more professional) Ex sounded pretty harsh, but Ed didn't seem bothered. That's what impressed me the most.
