Amazon is now selling SFBM for $8.99. That's not a used copy, that's a brand spanking new copy.

That is very, very discouraging.

Oh wow... sad.gif Some one check and see if Nick is ok.

Kidding. innocent.gif

That does suck. On a good note, my sister said that they were sold out of it when she went to get it at Target.

Actually who cares what price they sell it for. This album has been pushed to red distribution and there is no promotion for it. It is the equivalent of any indy album with no money behind it. You need to spend money to get sales.

If a movie's release date kept changing, there were no previews for it, and only a few theaters advertised it on the outside board, would you expect it to be a huge money maker? Same goes for a CD. Live played American Idol, but didn't mention the CD which wasn't even out yet. The only promotion they have done for the album has been Ellen and even that occurred before the album was even released.

Since June 6th, there has been beyond minimal airplay for Mystery and no promotion in the US. If you weren't a huge Live fan to begin with or a watcher of the Ellen show, you would have no clue Live even had a new album out. I am starting to think that Live will continue on even though Epic has mismanaged them. They will find a new distributor for their material, the only question is whom will it be.

I was at some nice bar in LA tonight and they have a "digital jukebox," which allows you to pick from a hundred or so albums to play from. Suprisingly they had "Songs from Black Mountain" added. I guess it's a network of the same devices all over the country, so there is some additional exposure. I realized they had it when somebody played "Night of Nights."

I agree with you, Nick. Also a bit on the distribution info you posted. I don't understand what all of the concern is on the price, however. They're still listed as in the top 100 Alternative Rock sales, number 36. They have many titles marked down with "big savings" including the cd's by Tool, Pearl Jam, Flaming Lips, Nickelback, and many more in the top 25 sales holders on their site plus even more in the top 100. They do that regularly to spark more sales.

Also, the cd is currently at number 35 on Canada's Soundscan sales chart. If the cd continues to hold steady sales over the months and even year to come, that's good. Sure, not a number one hit, maybe, but steady sales for the band, the label, everyone involved.

I keep seeing in interviews, even the recent one with Chad G. about how much they all enjoyed doing this cd and are happy with the product. They're packing their live shows. They have a lot of shows at festivals with other big name acts like the recently-added Live at the Levee in St. Louis where they will reach potential new fans. They are planning a tour in the fall. When they get back from their tour abroad, hopefully they will get some spots on some late-night tv shows, etc.

I've just seen so much doom and gloom and I just don't understand why. To me, my subjective opinion, I like this cd a lot. Chad even mentions that they are talking about what will be on their next cd and even hints of one in the not too distant future. As a Live fan, I am just going to keep going to their shows and enjoying one of the best live acts around. While I think they would have and are still hoping for some higher sales numbers, I think they are also happy performing, they like the cd, and there's money for them in their tours. If I remember correctly, I heard a big name promoter once say that bands don't really make much of their money on their cd's. They make it on their tour ticket sales and their other items like clothing, etc.

$8.99. Big deal. That was the "special price" offered by Target on SFBM's release date of the 6th. Just because Amazon lowered their price doesn't mean it's because they think the product stinks or the sales are bad. It's just a business tactic, to get more sales, nothing more.

I beleive it was 8.99 at Circuit City too. How much a CD is sold for isn't really an indicator of anything. Plus the cheaper it is the more it could help sales. A lot of CD's at Circuit City cost from 8.99-11.99 and some that are very big artist on the biggest record labels. If I remember correctly Tool and AFI (#1 Album in the country) were both 9.99 for the first couple weeks there.

edit:::actually they are both still 9.99

Excellent post. Of course Epic could do a lot of things better for the band, but it really is out of our control. July 29th- Toms Riverfest!

Well usually when a merchant lowers a price like that to get more sales, its because the item is not moving. I seriously doubt they'll sell any more copies by pricing it $3-4 cheaper. I think if you were going to buy it, you'd pay $11.99 or $12.99. The $8.99 price point won't make someone say " Hey, the new Live CD is out, and its not $11.99-$12.99! I should buy it!
