Guess I could have done a poll here, but whatever...too lazy to go back now

OK, here's the thing:

When I first heard Sofia and Show a few months ago at a show, I LOVED Show and was relatively apathetic towards Sofia. I remember at the time Sofia garnered much more attention here on the board than did Show. I'd say the consensus on the board at that time was that Sofia > Show.

What I find ironic is that now that we all have the album, with each additional listen I'm loving Sofia more and more, while liking Show less and less (I even skipped the 2nd half of the song today nervous.gif ). And, conversely, the board appears to be loving Show more and is possibly infatuated with Sofia a bit less...

Anyone on the boat with me?

By the way, I still really like Show...LOVE the two verses, but it just loses me in the choruses...just a bit corny to me...I just can hear a bad 80's rock band doing that chorus...don't care much for the bridge either...I really hate the "here we go...here we go" part...corny...

apologies to the Show fans...do love the two verses...

Sofia also is my fav song on the album.
I love those lyrics "one of her lungs breathes in another world, while the other sticks around to blow you off"
My interpretation of the lyric is that he's trying to show just how special Sophia is. She is so unbelieveably amazing and special she must be from another "world" in the sense that she stands apart from other girls and because of this she's wanted by many but very hard to get.

I still don't think 'Sofia' is a woman.

The lyrics are just so much more interesting if Sofia is a reference to wisdom ("sofia" is the Greek word for wisdom).

"One of these days I'm gonna dive into her waves and bring back the meaning of it all "

"I wanna feel ya, Sofia / Fallin' down on me like rain"

Of course not, I agree Sophia means " lover of wisdom". But thats how he approached the song. And inanimate object/things are always given a female reference eg. girl, her, lady or a female name.

Both songs rock pretty well in a live setting.

Sofia lost it for me on the album though, all of the high end in the guitars that made them stick out in concert seems to have been lost in the production of the album. and the lyric "like a junkie needs a vein" is cringe-worthy. However, using the idea of sofia=wisdom improves the song for me.

Show is bluesy? I don't think so. The guitars in Sofia are way funkier, I like the music better. The lyrics are not Ed's best.

sorry, can't relate to the hang-up on lyrics for any song. for me the song is about the MUSIC. if i wanted great words written down i would read poetry. i simply find sofia unique and enjoyable in it's sounds. very rarely do i get hung up about lyrics, except maybe for ed's buddha sitting under the tree in love shines, which cracks me up every time i hear it, but i still like the song okay.
