Hey all - newbie here. Hope you're all well. I've been a Live fan to one degree or another since Throwing Copper but recently I've been revisiting their music - specifically albums I had previously ignored like Birds of Pray and V. (V in particular has some stuff I like so far).

I've never heard The Turn with Chris Shinn, but it's not on Spotify (in Canada, at least), the CD is not available via Live's official store or Amazon. I recall when Shinn was let go, they barely mentioned or even thanked him. Has the album been erased from history?

Any help is appreciated!

Cheers.

When the band reunited in 2017, it seems clear that everything surrounding Shinn was officially removed like it never happened.

Definitely listen to The Turn, and also listen to The Gracious Few. Chad Chad and Pat's band with Kevin Martin, lead singer of Candlebox.

You might want to cautiously listen to Ed Kowalczyk's second solo album, the Flood and the Mercy.

Also listen to the Throwing Copper B-sides on Spotify - Hold Me up, Susquehanna, We Deal in the Dreams.

Maybe search for the track Radiant Sea.

What Bremang said is accurate. Like it or not, The Turn is the most guitar driven album since Secret Samadhi. That album came out in 2014.

As for The Gracious Few, it was a nice classic rock record meeting between Candlebox and Live. There is some gems in that one too. Sean Hennesy is a superb guitarist. It puts CT in a rythm role where he also belongs.

Without being a huge fan, I agree that Ed's second solo album is way better than the first production wise, even if Grace is in my opinion his best single. If you like pop-rock short songs then it's for you.

And don't forget from that site in the multimedia section all the B-sides and alternate versions of songs from The distance to here.

The Turn has been removed from most streaming services, but it is still available via Spotify in Australia. However The Gracious Few album is not available here for us Aussies. You win some, you lose some.

There is a playlist on YouTube that lists all the tracks from The Turn (along with the AU bonus tracks).

You can get a new CD copy on eBay for a reasonable price.

Actually, I compiled a list of places where you can purchase The Turn a couple of years ago. Most of the links still work.

The Gracious Few is an album I'd definitely check out. People either love or hate The Turn. Feels more like a side project than an actual Live album.

I'd say check out The Garden and Alive from Ed before totally being disappointed with The Flood and the Mercy.

The Radiant Sea album is something I'd recommend picking it up. It's still on the website. If you want the most recent stuff It's Local 717.

Thanks everyone! Has the band ever addressed The Turn? "We hate it, so we removed it from existence," or something like that? Just seems odd to delete it like it doesn't exist.

I'll check it out on YouTube if they don't have it deleted before I get there. I'll also try to find it on CD.

The Gracious Few album also isn't available on Spotify here in Canada.

They didn't say anything when they took it out. I think Ed said something in one interview that he was not acknoledging that album, but anyway they just pressed a button and out it was.

There is an interview floating around where Chris Shinn addresses how he was upset about the breakup and being erased forever.

On the contrary, there are those of us who consider The Turn to be the only release from anyone in the band that feels like a proper Live album this side of 2000. And that's because it is. Nothing Ed has done comes close to it.

The Gracious Few is also well worth tracking down. Belting record, that.

Real Live sound needs Ed doing a good job - not likely to happen. To me both The Turn and The Gracious Few sound like CCP doing their thing with a special guest(s). Part of me thinks the Turn should have been a second Gracious Few album, especially since Shinn couldn't get Ed's lyrics correct. How disconnected from the music can you be as a lead singer if you don't know the lyrics or understand the intention behind the words. Just keep getting new lead singers for each TGF album. Then go on tour with all the singers and have them switch in and out side stage when their song comes up. Crowd would dig that.

If you REALLY want to hear something trippy, there was a moment in 2012 (or was it 2016...) when Live put together a 4 song demo of throwing copper songs with Shinn as lead singer. All over you, I alone, Lightning Crashes, and Selling the drama. If you message me, I'll hook you up.

Pretty sure it made it’s way here and all the shills rejoiced.

Merica loves The Turn! Like Bremang, I've always felt it was more of a second TGF album. I do like Sirens Call, pretty solid rocker.

I do love The Turn. The music, the artwork, what it stood for - the whole thing.

Would have been fine had they released it as a second TGF album, tbf. But even then it would have been such a Live album in all but name. Whereas the TGF album we have is, while great, clearly not a Live album.
