Judging from one day sales totals, "Songs From Black Mountain" is projected to have sales between 20,000 and 50,000 copies in the US during its first week (this projection does not include the 7,500+ digital downloads of the album that have already been sold on the internet since May 23rd). Live's last studio album, "Birds Of Pray", debuted at #28 on The Billboard 200 chart, with sales of 39,000 units. It has since sold 274,000 copies (in the US alone).

I've been a long-time fan of Live, but I've never followed their figures of sales over the years. Just enjoyed their music. I'm now into checking more out about them, like those sales figures, etc. You mention that the 274,000 figure was U.S. only. Do you have the figures on how many copies were sold worldwide? I had been told by friends that Live has enjoyed more popularity abroad than in the U.S. I'm hopeful if that is true that it will change, as I'd like to see them get major recognition for their talent/accomplishments in the U.S., too.

Let's hope those Chris fans get out there and move sales closer to the 50,000 figure.

What satisfaction is there in an American Idol contestant pushing Live's album sales higher?

I was hoping with the preorders and AI performance sales would be higher. Not that I really care, I don't base my opinion on their popularity. It would be nice to see them get the recognition they deserve in the US though. I suppose it's still pretty good considering The River didn't make the impact I thought it would. Hopefully the new version of Mystery will get some airplay.

In the music industry, you take anything you can get.

I don't really care about their popularity, but I'm sort of glad The River didn't make much impact. The River is a crappy song in my opinion and I wouldn't want teenage girls to be singing "lalala..." Mystery is a better song though..so good luck to them.

Their sales would be higher this week if their record company had shipped enough. I've tried several stores since Tuesday and the cd is sold out. Either I just have bad luck picking stores or the cd is doing better than expected. Each time I've asked an employee if they have more in the back and each time I get the same response: No, sorry. We've had lots of people asking about it.

My search begins anew tomorrow...

To me, it's obvious. No matter whether it's "an American Idol contestant", a slick ad campaign, videos on VH1 and MTV or whatever else kicks the sales figures higher, higher sales figures are a plus. The more cd's sold, the potential for more fans for the band. Higher sales and more fans likely will mean more tour dates. More tour dates will mean more chances for me to see them perform again.

Between 20,000 and 50,000, isn't that a huge difference?

I wonder if they only released a limited number of this version of the CD to capitalize on the recent American Idol/Ellen performances. I can see the dualdisk being released shortly with the Live/Chris version of Mystery featured.

I checked on Amazon.com to see how SFBM sales were going there. Right now, they listed at 52 on the overall top sellers list.

It's at number 7 on alternative rock. 34 on rock.

Customer reviews and rankings have the cd at 4-1/2 stars now and it was about 3 earlier today.

I really think the Chris Daughtry fans are making a huge difference in sales. The album has been climbing a lot of online charts. It was 100 2 days ago on Amazon, but now its in the 40's. I am excited to see where it debuts on Billboard.
