I haven't listened to it yet, but Chris talks about Live.

Nice find Dangum. Shinn fans will love this. Very educated host too.

Regarding Live, Chris started off by listing the highlights of recording and touring and being in Live. But then he opens up about the issues

Spoilers -

Shinn says Live took the Turn music down, and he is so embarrassed.

Says Live are "fucking assholes." "no good reason they couldn't have said anything about what they had done together." Feels extremely disrespected.

Chris always knew that Ed would return and he was fine with that from the start.

Originally Chris was never intended to be in the band. Chad's plan was to re-record the hits with a new singer for commercial purposes since he had recently acquired rights to the music.

Claims Live had never made a public statement thanking Chris. (Technically Chad said something nice about Chris on social media after fans were wondering what was going on.)

Chris is very torn about the Live experience. Loves the highs. Left feeling "fucking mad" and emotional whenever he thinks back on it. thinking "fuck those guys"

Chris says he invested a “ridiculous amount of money” into United Fiber and he “got the fuck out of it.”

Says Live has a business partner in United Fiber that he doesn’t care for at all, and that a lot of people don’t care for…”vindictive and cruel.” (Who else could it be? Gotta be Hynes.)

Chris was an equal member of Live.

Chris calls Live bullies, they fired people for stupid reasons, act like 17 year olds.

Says Live were begging Chris to act out and act weird in Australia.

Says Live wouldn't talk to anyone or have any camaraderie with the other bands and people.

Reveals that Live joked back in early 2000's that they would never tour with Counting Crows again, yet they went back anyway.

My take -
Good studio singer when Jerry is at the helm. Siren's Call was optimized in part thanks to Chris. Had a decent voice in concert. Forgot lyrics and couldn't sing into the mic, not acceptable. Super nice guy. Career was one silly mishap after another. For those of you who have instagram - go ahead and let CCP and Ed hear this interview.

I think there are some truthfulness in some of the stuff he's saying. I don't get pulling The Turn from the catalog and some of the decision making they've done makes no sense. And for me this new EP is a flat out mess. There's one song on there I care anything at all for, the rest can be tossed.

All that said, Shinn contradicts himself plenty. The guys are assholes, yet he loves then and enjoyed the hell out of being in the band? He always knew Ed would be back, but he's hurt that he's not still in the band?

Idk, just seems to me to be partial or half-truths mixed in with a lot of sour grapes.

Definitely Bill Hynes. Bill had another go (or should I say goes) at Chris on Facebook today before the whole thread was deleted.

I'm glad that we finally got to hear about his time with Live. I know there are always two sides to every story but what he says makes a lot of sense. Hynes was on here attacking Shinn shortly after the split. Live sent in their pet dog to ruffle some feathers so everyone would accept Ed back into Live.

Bottom line I get it's a business, but these guys just sound like shitty friends too. Karma is a bitch. They deserve the musical purgatory that they find themselves in with Ed and his horrendous writing. Casino shows sound about right for their future.

I'll check out the archived catalog when they release it but other than that I'm done.

Hope everyone has a great Holiday. Peace Out.

While I like to think that the boys read this board from time to time (wait, maybe that isn’t really a good thing), I don’t think they would care enough about what the 5 people who post here feel to send in a “pet dog” for damage control.

I’d like to add, that Shinn finally opening his mouth after 2 1/2 years to address this, is rather fishy.

I don't think it's fishy really, he has his first record coming out since The Turn and people are going to ask about this when he is out promoting it. I suppose he could just not talk about it, but it's pretty rare for a band to try and delete an album from their catalog so it's really fine for him to be pissed off about it. What does he have to lose? If he gets to vent and it helps get him back out there a little bit, good on him.

As for wondering why he is sending mixed signals about all of it, this is certainly a thing that is fine to be conflicted over. Relationships, especially in music, are fucking complicated. It's not a black and white thing, you can love someone and hate the way they treated you, you can hate someone while enjoying some of the time you spent with them, etc etc etc.

I've no idea what really happened and like usual I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between the two stories, but the band trying to remove a whole album and time period from existence is indefensible for me and it's doubtful I give them any more of my hard earned cash. I just popped over to see if there's any news on a TC rerelease so I can stream it on Spotify. I'll go back to not caring now.

My opinion is that Chris was brought in for his bags of money and was shown the door as soon as he pulled out of UFD. My opinion is also that the LIVE boys have not made good financial decisions and are bad news.

I never liked Chris as part of the band, but wow!

I feel for the guy - not because he is no longer part of Live, but because of how they ended things with him. I agree, they should have thanked him for what they did together and included him as part of their history.

The music should still be available. He makes a great point, the fans did prefund that album. For them to take availability away from the fans who made it happen is ridiculous and embarrassing.

The Live conversation runs from about the 44 minute mark until about the 65 minute mark.

He was saying that they were treating him weird - almost trying to get him to act out towards them. The writing was on the wall that the relationship was ending so they got weird towards him.

If they're using other peoples money (Chris) it's all good. UFD seems to be underway still and theoretically could pay off pretty huge.
