Ran across this “only tribute band for Līve” on the FOL Facebook page. Am interested to see your opinions after you watch their videos. Wish they had a YouTube channel, but I don’t find one.

In 2003 myself and a Live cover band called "Brothers Unaware" had some meet and greets together. Ed remembered them from a previous encounter. Ed was like, hey you guys are Brothers Unaware.

I'll be honest: I've been wanting to play in a Live cover band for many, many years now, but there's just no interest in the Seattle area.

I also can't rip on other musicians. As a musician of 20+ years myself, who learned to play drums by obsessively listening to MJ, TC and SS until I could play the songs in my sleep, I know better. They're doing the best they can do, and I applaud that they're trying to replicate what makes Live, well, Live. That's no easy task. Hell... Live can barely do it any more. That said, I have some constructive thoughts, in no particular order:

I wish they'd branch outside of "the hits" and play deep cuts, and stuff from The Turn. To be fair, we've only got the clips from FB to go off of, so we don't know everything they're doing.

It was fun to see them do the jammy intro with the AOY chords like Live has been doing to start their shows recently, which means they're keeping an eye on what Live is doing. Curious to see if they'll incorporate any L717 songs.

They should change their name. Evil isn't remotely close to anything Live related. Brothers Unaware is a perfect name. If you can't find a good song title, dig deep and pull a lyric out that means something that Live fans would understand.

The singer is pretty good at sounding like Ed, though I'm pretty sure he messed up a few lyrics. He mumbles a lot, and the videos aren't that great of quality, so it's hard to tell.

Since I'm a drummer, that's what I notice the most, and will break down a bit. Sometimes the drummer overplays, and it kills me. Gracey's style is just as much what he's playing as what he's not. If you're going to copy the style, do it note for note, just like your bassist and guitarist. Don't embellish on the main parts of the song. Likely no one outside of hardcore fans would notice, but as a hardcore Live fan, it immediately makes me bring them down a peg or two. It's also what separates bar cover bands from more professional cover bands. Check out their versions of I Alone, Shit Towne and BoG for what I mean. Their rendition of LC needs work. The drums aren't even close, and to make it worse, there aren't any dynamics to the song. On a positive note, PLOTR is pretty good. The bass player does a great job at replicating Pat's groovy perfection.

OK... I had more thoughts on that than I thought I would have. Sorry for the length.

TL; DR: They're an OK bar band Live cover band. I wish they'd change their name and play deeper cuts.
