Rock band Live will bring their many hits along with a new high-energy song to the Ironstone Amphitheatre stage in Murphys next Tuesday, July 3.

The band, who rose to worldwide fame in the mid-1990s with the multi-platinum album “Throwing Copper,” is launching a tour with the Counting Crows today in Boise, Idaho.

Live’s hard-rock single “Love Lounge” was released last Friday and is the first new song in more than a decade from the band’s original lineup.

“It’s probably the fastest song we’ve done,” lead singer Ed Kowalczyk said during a phone interview from his home in Connecticut. “I’m really excited by the energy in the band.”

The raw track has a catchy chorus, with lyrics such as “shoot that fear” being shouted.

Live recently shot a video for “Love Lounge” in New York City featuring a golden bar, gangsters and gambling. It’s now in the editing process and is expected to be released soon.

The band’s 70-minute setlist will feature “Love Lounge” and their many hits, including “Lightning Crashes” and “I Alone.”

“The songs we get in trouble if we don’t play,” Kowalczyk joked.

The vocalist and guitarist said despite performing those hits countless times, he remains inspired by the audience.

“It’s still so meaningful for the fans,” he said.

The band is known for its visceral, intense performances.

“We pride ourselves in leaving each show saying that we put as much as we could into it,” Kowalczyk said.

In addition to Kowalczyk, the band includes Chad Taylor on guitar and backing vocals, Patrick Dahlheimer on bass and Chad Gracey on drums.

Joining Live’s original lineup for the tour is Robin Diaz on drums and Zak Loy on guitar.

Past and present

The four original members of Live were childhood friends who started playing music together when they were just 13 years old in the mid-1980s.

They grew up in York, Pennsylvania — birthplace of Hershey’s peppermint pattie, and as Kowalczyk notes, the artist Jeff Koons.

Having come full circle, “Love Lounge” is the band’s first release officially recorded in their hometown.

A few years out of high school, the band released the single “Operation Spirit” from their debut album, “Mental Jewelry.”

Live achieved worldwide success with their 1994 album “Throwing Copper,” surpassing sales of 10 million albums.

That album produced the band’s biggest single, “Lightning Crashes,” which ruled the Billboard rock charts.

The band also topped the Billboard album charts with 1997’s “Secret Samadhi,” which included the hit “Lakini’s Juice.”

Live put out three more albums until 2006’s “Song From Black Mountain.” That was followed by a hiatus that soon turned into a split.

In 2014, Live released “The Turn,” the band’s only project with singer Chris Shinn instead of Kowalczyk.

Eventually, Kowalczyk and Taylor reconnected.

“We missed each other and wanted to get back on stage together,” Kowalczyk said.

The band reunited last year, performing at music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, along with arena shows with Guns N’ Roses.

Now, Live is excited for the opportunity to tour this summer with their “good buddies” the Counting Crows, Kowalczyk said.

Next week’s Ironstone show won’t be Live’s first winery performance, however. Among the 26 shows in five countries they performed last year was a concert at an Australian winery.

While touring this summer, the band’s upcoming EP will be mixed. Kowalczyk anticipates its release this fall.

As for his current influences, Kowalczyk said lately he’s been inspired by blues music.

“I don’t think I’ve listened to a record released after 1970 in the past year,” he said.

"Fastest" is a reference to it being a "facemelter". Nothing against Love Lounge but I'd say Stage is faster and more of a "facemelter".
