Time to reflect.
The death of Bowie in January marked the beginning of what maybe will become the most brutal year when it comes to celebrity deaths.

David Bowie
Prince
Glenn Frey
Rick Parfitt(Status Quo)
Leonard Cohen
Gene Wilder
Alan Rickman
Alan Thicke
Maurice White(Earth, Wind & Fire)
Johan Cruijff
Mohammed Ali

and yesterday we've lost George Michael.

Add Carrie Fisher to the list now sad.gif

As sad as it all is, I always find it strange that so many people classify good/bad years in terms of celebrity deaths. Its not an uncommon thing to do, but it always struck me as strange. So many other non-celebrity death-things make 2016 a horrible year for the world.

Although i did read an interesting take on celebrity deaths recently. The gist was basically that 2016's dead pool will soon become more like the norm. This is because that as time goes on we have aging celebrities who were brought to fame in a times when it was easier to find fame. When you travel back 10, 15, 20yrs, the celebrities who were, for lack of a better term, in a "danger zone" for being at risk of death - either through old age or having lived hard ... their were just fewer of them because their rise to fame happened at a time when there were less avenues for to being famous. As we progress with more movies, more music, more advertising, more social media, more TV etc... we simply have more celebrities so we will start seeing more die. It was described a bit like, the number of retirees in a football league with 16 teams compared to the number of retirees in a football league with 32 teams. So even though 2016 seems particularly cruel to celebrities compared to years before it, over the next few years it'll probably just be the norm.

^Agree 100%. The fact that we lost so many greats makes the year stand out i suppose.
We get the news faster, it's widespread and it doesn't leave us alone. For every celebrity death we get a tsunami of other celebrities grieving, top 10 lists, special articles how they secretly were great and made a mark on the world stage. Not that they weren't, but why can't we get those articles when they're still alive, so they can actually get the positive feedback.

In the case of George Michael, the guy suffered a ton of flack and humiliation most of his career and now we hear about his philanthropy, what he meant for the LGBTQ-community and how his music is timeless...tragic he didn't get that feedback more in his lifetime.
