At around i'd say 2002-2006 i went through a phase where i just didn't listen to the band at all, i actually went through a hip hop phase during that time. Don't get me wrong i was still a fan but i just didn't crave listening to them at all. I obviously got my passion for the band back, but i did lose it for a long time. I am curious to know if any of you ever went through a similar phase or not, please elaborate.

I did that for a few years after all the drama. I've started listening to them a bit again but sometimes it's almost difficult to list to, knowing what a douche Ed became, both in terms of his bland Jesus-y lyrics and how he treated his three friends from grade school

I've been very much in the same boat as jaybb here. Ed really took a turn for the worse and is a completely person than the one I listened to back in the 90s. Had he not stabbed his friends in the back towards the end of their run maybe I wouldn't feel that way despite the hard left turn the band's direction in music.

This is really a great topic and made me register and post for the first time after years of reading. I really got into Live during high school and was super devoted from 1999. V certainly caused concern, but I still went to shows and listened to their older material religiously. Pearl Jam took the top spot soon after and then it really happened; I discovered the Grateful Dead in '03 and haven't looked back. I'll have a night or two a month when I listen to Live/watch videos, but my heart is with jambands now. Living in Colorado really reinforces that choice. That being said, I'll check out the new album, see them Live if they come close enough and even check out an Ed show despite his terrible new material. Live will always have a piece of my heart.

Nice post. I think the majority of Live fans vacated and stopped listening around the same time you did. Some fools will blame lack of marketing but Ed and his music got too strange for most.

I have actually been listening to Live more than ever since i heard of the breakup in '09. I thought to myself: "ths is the end of Live, i had better go listen to to them" when i heard of the split. I thought that there might not be another record, ya know, so after listening non-stop i (fully) realized how amazing they were. They are my favorite band obviously!

I haven't really been listening to Live for the past year and a half. I check back periodically but all Live seems to care about now is getting their name on some racecar and not making new music. It's like they forgot how to be musicians.

I hate to agree with this, but I haven't listened to anything with the Live name on it in the last 18 months or so. Other than that awful acoustic track the new Live put out. ("meow, meow, meow" for the backing vocals.)

From 1992 until 18 months ago, I think I listened to SOMETHING by Live every single day. Spent tens of thousands of dollars on their products and tours.

Yet I still have high hopes that, with the help of a good producer and some studio tricks to fix the vocal problems, the new Live is making a great album for us. Weird, eh?
