So what does everyone think of the new Live track they played at the Strand?

I was hoping the new song would grow on me, but it still doesn't sound right to me. Off key? Out of tune maybe?

What does everyone else think? Here is the video:

Gotta love how they are still using all the vids my son made!
I didn't really like the song. They need to practice more before i can really say whether i am sold on them or not.
Chads voice def is not good. Hopefully he will sound better on other songs.
It sucks that they disable comments though. People have a lot of interesting things to say.
wonder what they are afraid of. lol.gif I still have all the vids on my channel.
You tube said i just have to wait till the strikes go away.

Also, wow, my son did some really good editing on those didn't he?
The band should give him credit for using them. I mean, after all, they didn't make them.

It's a live performance. Chad sang the background vocals on I Alone during the MTV Unplugged show and that rocked too. Yes, I like the song.

The song is good and it will sound great on the album.

I understand. I know live shows are different and i know what he has sung. I just didn't think his voice was up to par. He can sound a lot better.

After some say we stick on negativity in the Ed's thread... no.gif

very good song, still listen to it almost daily. Not only the new song is very good but the versions of most of the songs there are great, particularly Beauty of gray, which is stellar, best in the last 15 years maybe. Cheers for I alone and selling the drama as well.

Bad settings for Chad T.'s mic. Things happened, and with good settings he sounds good.

It's a live performance

This. It was a semi-acoustic performance of a brand new track. It's not going to be perfect. It's safe to say that the album version will be more polished and any of the imperfections of the debut performance will not be present on the final product.

In terms of the actual track - I think it's great. I love the melody, lyrics and urgency of the track. If the rest of the album is at the same level then I'll be happy (and that's all that matters tongue.gif)

No one said it had to be perfect. I mean shit, we knew it wouldn't be. I just hope they get a lot of practice in because they def need it. I'd like to see them get as successful as Ed is now.

Everyone needs to practice to get better at anything, but they don't "need it". The sound good.

I agree with the above, I just wish the vocals sounded better. It COULD be a great song. But this performance left so much to be desired. I get that we all WANT the song and the band to sound great, but that doesn't make it great by default.

I've played this for a bunch of friends who gave up on Live years ago, without telling them who or what it was, and they all think it could be a cool song if the singing was better. I've never heard a Live song's vocals sound this poor in my 20 years of following the band, whether it was an acoustic version or a live version. Their name is LIVE. They should be able to perform any of their songs live...

urgency? I don't find the quality that great. But me, it might be better when mastered.

I agree with 'singing is not good and it could be a great song'. Think of it this way... I imagine Ed's voice in place and I think the song is fantastic. In other words, the song writing still seems good and Live-like. The vocals are not up to par yet with how good they used to sing live, that's all.
