Light up a cigarette, she said. And calm the fuck down.
Relax and let your ears hear this beautiful song that's hiding underneath the sound.

Like Himalayan cold winter, these jaws of Kali Yuga.
Yeah it's a crazy kind of cold; a lifeless slumber in a stranglehold.
Yeah Tibet, she can't even touch this. I'd rather freeze in her forests.
We're in a spiritual winter... and I long for the one who is fire... amongst the dreamers.
You are in my heart.

This one is the best part about the water EVER

QUOTE
An invisible Mississippi, Ganges or a Nile
I can feel the quiet river rage
Forcin' my lips into a smile
Don't believe that the world is empty
Just too noisy to hear the sound
I can feel the quiet river rage
And I'm fallin' down
Saved by the river now

And never one of my absolute faves, but the text is absolutely fucking incredible

QUOTE
oh Hitler, in a robe of truth
my emptiness has built your altar
and I've worshipped myself in you forever
until now!

I really can quote most of the texts from any Live album. Really, the weight that hangs on your shoulders line really saved me once. Or twice.

So it is impossible to chose.

TDTH really has a lot of those moments. Where Fishes go really helped me through tough times, but most of the lyrics there just proove that you can write about love/happiness and feel that the writer was inspired by something else than greed. Small ode to TDTH here. Great album.

There was void and then that water broke... then something called "me"

so simple yet such a creative way to describe the mystery of birth and life!

I saw your tongue, it licked my heart
they called you queer (Just freakin' weird)

A shepherd is a man afraid of
Losing all the things he made up
To keep his feet planted high above the field (Explains power and capitalism)

When I was her
And she was me,
We got along till we became ourselves (Explains every failed relationship)

Many good ones already taken. Badman you nailed the Cheetah lyric, always loved the simplicity of that one. That's the difference, Ed back then when he was being simplistic was condensing something complex into something elegant and direct in a deliberate way. Now when he's being simplistic about things it feels like it's from a lack of creativity, in that he can't say it any other way.

Personally I'd have posted Wam's example, I love that line.

Always really loved this one:

I thought I knew exactly what scared me
and I would never have to run again
so I went to sleep and began dreaming
of perfect lives in paradise
woke up and started screaming
Who put the fear in here?

Although its technically not "Live". That idea of a person who is fearless and believes they are untouchable until they dream of how much better life could be, then waking up and suddenly being filled with fear at the realisation that their world, their life is so far from what they wanted or what they hoped for.

the face and ghost my guide
I must move on
it's the face of one ravaged by love
it's both dead and alive

I just love the imagery of this one. It's something Ed's writing never does anymore for me - create images in my mind. Just the idea of this face of some ghost who's seen the highest of highs that comes with love and also the lowest of lows that the downside of love can bring, or just love coming to an end. This twisted demented face, yet somehow still beautiful, or was beautiful.

but the beauty of this vision alone
just like yesterday's sunset
has been perverted by the sentimental
and mistaken for love

Gorgeous. Given what this song is meant to be about, I also took this line as a statement on those who confuse sex with love. One of Ed's early good similes.

and as the decibels of this disenchanting
discourse, continue to dampen the day

God the alliteration in this line is just brilliant.

Ah look at all us Ed haters!

yeah I found God
and he was absolutely just like me
he opened my mouth, looked down my throat
told me I was thirsty
he said, I been, I been, I been
been in this water all my life
never took the time to breathe, breathe,
BREATHE!

this i love . it reminds me to breathe.......realize how good i've got it....

Ed used to be so world fucking class. No matter how much he's changed, and for the worse of course, he'll always be the guy who penned so many genius lyrics for Live. Quality lyricist back in his heyday.

I was only gonna put one of these verses in but then I remembered just how good this song was.

My 2 cents worth:

I was wrong
we are not these bodies alone
in a dream with a mind of its own
I, I know you long
to be tethered
and tied to the heart of the one
the one that be layin' you down
on that ancient ground
nothin' more to be found
ah yeah

now we walk in the dream
but dream no more
to live a life in love the only thing in common was
we knew there was somethin' more
now we walk in the dream
but dream no more
to live a life in love
to hear the voice in the wilderness
the other side of the door
somethin' more

I feel strong
I'm finally at peace
the war is all gone
by no cause of my own
like an eagle cuts through the air
no time for fear
faith in his wings takes him there

Nah-nah, my friend! We all STILL love THAT Ed, right? Although it really is getting harder and harder day by day. For me personally.
