Cannot fucking wait for this! Alien is my favourite picture of all time and when i found out that ridley scott was coming back for this prequel/non-prequel i creamed myself.

I always wanted to know who the race of space-jockey's that appeared in the original were, where they came from and why they sent a warning signal out into space NOT to come down to the planet ,which of course the crew of the Nostromo interpreted as an SOS so naturally went to investigate and you all know what happened (and if you don't then you really need to watch Alien).

What I loved about that movie was how Scott allowed the film to breathe, from the very opening title sequence, to the introduction of the Nostromo vessel itself as a character and then of course the 'waking' scene of the crew, it drew you into a silently poetic dream which brilliantly turns into a nightmare. Compare that with the fourth film (which i must admit i like as a stand alone, goofy french art-house guilty pleasure, but it really doesnt belong in the franchise) with all the rapid cuts and bullshit cheap dialogue and no sense of wonder. The second film may have been more frantic and mayhem but Cameron did it properly by making nearly the first half of that movie as slow and suspensful as possible so that when the action did hit it was a surprise. And any big studio sci-fi / horror production these days are so fucking hyperactive and loud and devoid of suspense from the opening shot to the last. Blah.

I really hope this film can re-capture some of that magic and i know im setting myself up for failure by being so excited but hey, no one liked Alien when it first came out so who knows.

I watched Alien only once when I was so high, me and my friend rolled in tears seeing the bud from outter space.

My wife is mad expecting mind blowing from Prometheus. We are probably watching it today or tomorrow.

I like the fact that it started as an alien prequel but Scott saw it was becoming different enough to naturally morph it into its own thing. Gives me faith that it a Film that will just feel right, won't feel forced or hammer you over the head with foreshadowing or fan boy references which wreck so many prequels/sequels. Can't wait!

ive been reading some of the rather negative reviews which are floating around with the intention that it will lower my expectations. I just hope he (Scott) didn't dumb it down for the multiplex masses.

Saw it today, won't give any spoilers. Good movie, nothing astounding or mind blowing, but I enjoyed it. I like how they danced the fine line between directly linking it to Alien and keeping it quite separate. I think Scott gave a real accurate description of it being in the same universe, but not the same story. That being said I found myself getting all fan boy and giddy at the Alien references (some blaringly obvious and some much more subtle).

In some ways I would have preferred an Alien prequel and in other ways I kind of liked it like this, little nods to origins, but not really fleshing it out. Made it a more interesting way of doing it and it still left plenty of mystery. I think the moving could have stood to be a little longer actually, there were some things I was wanting to see explored a little more rather than moving on so quick.

It didn't quite manage to achieve what Aliens did in the sense that not everyone on the crew was fleshed out, there were some I just didn't even realise were even there or not, a few 'nothing' characters, but the ones that weren't were decent. There were a few holes you could pick at too, but it also gives you some things to think about and ponder over, which I like when walking out of the cinema.

Either way, I enjoyed it and don't feel ripped off

But really, every movie now is just killing time until The Dark Knight Rises.

Huge spaceships were ... just huge spaceships, I mean they were cool and all, but no different from huge spaceships in other films! In fact one huge space ship is exactly like a huge spaceship in another film from 1979

sort of spoilerish, but not really paragraph coming up:

One thing that did bother me though was the fact the crew didn't seem phased by anything ... there was never any "sit down and get this shit sorted in our heads and make a plan" moment. Catastrophic event after catastrophic event happened and you'd think they'd say "shall we sit down and work this shit out? whats the plan? what the fuck just happened?" instead it's just "ok guys lets charge straight back into the tomb of horrors again!"

Thought the first half of the movie was really tense, there were a couple of tense as fuck scenes which really gripped me and were classic Scott ... but the second half I think lost it's way a bit.

What happened? This was supposed to be a return to sci-fi greatness by the great ridley scott! I was supposed to be scared shitless! Instead I was bored and disinterested.

Keep it simple stupid. Blah. Im going to watch Alien to make myself feel better. Delete this thread.

Yeah in retrospect, upon more time to think ... it was pretty shit. The operating table/capsual scene was pretty intense, but overall meh.

I'm just hoping the director's cut will really improve it, like it does for most Riddley Scott films (eg Kingdom of Heaven). There is so much they could have done (and might have done) that I hope a DC will show.

Well, that's fucked then.

A 3hr director's cut is about all that could really save it. It's a shame, it just had potential and ended up such a mess. You can really see how it was originally 1 story and then he changed his mind and made it another and the 2 just didn't allow each other room to breathe.

Sure i walked out of the theater with questions which fueled some heated discussion which is a good thing for a movie to do, but the film just lacked suspense and wasn't scary at all. Maybe i shouldn't have expected it to be but it was marketed as a scary film. The cesarean section scene was the only time i felt a little anxious, but that lasted 5 minutes. The last scene reminded me of Alien Vs Predator.

Scott is like 75, time to retire.
