Sounds good to me. I do know that Ed was planning a different type of tour for himself in the first half of 2012, I'm hoping that it works out and happens.

Here's hoping his new music steps it up a level and exhibits a little more artistic depth.

Don't bother coming back Ed - you've done enough already.

Its his blatantly outright lyrics that are terrible. What happened to the guy that caused us to all think about each song and lyric? Now its just right there, read it, understand it. There is no room for interpretation, because they're lyrics that a 3rd grader could write. In addition to those horrors, he's gone over the edge with shoving the Jesus act down our throats. We get it, write about something else, or at least add some mystery to the lyrics like you once did.

Oh, I will agree with that. But the themes people object to are present throughout the catalog.

I accept that Ed is going to stay on his lyrical path so I'm not going to harp on the dead pan lyrics anymore, but at least sing the songs the way you wrote the lyrics.

"Like a child, falling asleep at the wheel".

I know that's not the intention behind the lyrics, but that is how it is sung.

it's not uncommon for poetry and songs to be sung/spoken in a totally different metre than their intended meaning. I"m not defending it, really, just saying.
though that lyric, a child falling asleep at the wheel, is the funniest example I've ever heard.

in regards to lyrical transparency, there are many many in the Christian music world who - due to weird interpretations of scripture regarding deceit - insist on lyrical transparency. as a listener (part time) of Christian rock, one station I sometimes listen to often advertises itself as playing music that's "inspirational, transparent, uplifting" and something else, i forget the commercial. I think that's why so much Christian rock is so awful. It's lyrics a fourth grade could read/write/understand/probably rewrite with more mystery and character.

that said, I don't think Alive is transparent because Ed wanted to write it that way. I think it's so transparent because at the time he wrote it, it was the most creative thing he could do. We all know it's much easier to create in misery. He's happy. (it's awful). maybe he'll be inspired by some terrible tragedy (I'm not wishing him one, though - I'm a jackass, but not like that) and write an amazing second solo album.
but probably he'll be happy and lyrically flat.
ugh.

I always thought that "like a child" related to the line BEFORE it, not the falling asleep at the wheel part, i.e.:

"Standing inside your love, like a child" and then "Falling asleep at the wheel of my life..." etc.

I guess its all a matter of interpretation. I still have no idea what it means but I'm ok with that.

Know what solves the lyric problem with Ed and his new songs? Don't listen to them. That is what I have done and life instantly got better.
