When you're feeling kind of down... a little lost, perhaps - unsure of the future or even your own identity. Stuck between nothing and nowhere, sat in a room starring at the wall... which album soothes you the most - eases the pain, and brings you back around. Or at least helps in some way.

For me, it's Secret Samadhi. The subdued, subtle, dark tones to the album just kind of pull me into the groove and suddenly I'm not thinking about whatever is that's getting me down any more... I'm just moving through the music somehow. Song to song, the comfort of familiarity and high integrity/creativity... it all just works to restore a little faith and level me back out.

This is all perhaps a bit artsy fartsy / blithering waffle but, I don't know, quite apt for me at the moment. And I know a few of you have referenced which albums have helped you through hard times before, so I thought there might be some mileage in a thread.

Funny enough, it ain't the album. But the songs that sooth me are Merica and than - Gas HEad.

Those two do it for me

Not hard to see why. Merica works you into a fine groove, then Gas Head takes you away to a different plane of existence altogether.

two of my grandparents died within a month of each other this summer & I went nowhere without my iPod & without realizing it, for about 6 weeks I listened to SS all day every day.
it made me want to run, while lulling me to sleep at the same time. I would repeated merica, insomnia, & gas he'd, especially.
I might not have survived without it.

and tremendous amounts of wine.

Any of LIVEs first 4 albums are easy to listen to from start to finish, thats what i love about them. the journey each takes me on. TDTH is especially like that to me when i am down and need a lift. It starts me off with dolphins cry, lifting me and dropping down with voodoo, fishes, face and ghost, then up again to finish with stood up for love ,dream and dance with you..... i love the ride...... lol.gif

Here's the chronological stages of moods... TC for getting me out of the funk, SS to get me out of the melancholy, and TDTH for bringing me into the light.

I don't have that kind of relationship to any of their other albums.

SS definitely soothes me as other have said. Sonically there aren't many other albums that I enjoy listening to more than it in the total darkness and up loud to just take me away and let the music completely wash over me. It's up there with Tom Waits' Bone Machine for that type.
However like I've said before, V also is probably the album that lifts me up the most of this lot, I associate it with a terrible point in my life when it was one of the few shining bright lights. I imagine if i'd not had that emotional attachment to it then there would be very little reason for me to listen to it much now.
But I went with SS as the poll asks for soothing rather than uplifting, and they're different things to me.

Funny how TC gets the lowest votes (of the four expected albums).

TDTH is the most soothing album that I've ever listened too. It is also the LIVE album that I feel flows the best, and plays like a story unfolding.
