So now that Michael Stipe is free, I think it would be a great choice for the guys of LIVE to give him a call. We all know that Ed Kowalczyk had a unique style of voice (early work we are talking about), but so does Stipe. The only difference between them is that Stipe did't sell out for the shade of the palm tree scene. There are a couple of tunes on "Death Of A Dictionary" that (to me) get cross-lined with something that REM would do in their early work. So I think (which, of course, not gonna happen') bringing Stipe would rock the boat, possibly...

Also, for a thought - what would happen if Ed K had an opportunity to join REM on their next album?

He'd turn it to Christian Pop-Rock and run them so hard into the ground that they'd come out the other side in China.

I'm not sure I get the poll though, I'd say I'm 99.999999% sure that Michael Stipe isn't going near Live. Are you asking which of this selection we'd just prefer most?

In an ideal world, Ed. He'd find a REAL creative spark again, begin challenging himself to get back to the level of creativity and insightfulness of his early days. He'd sing in a much lower register, drop the American Idol wannabe style of singing, leave his shirt on, stop trying to whore himself out with products to make him money, apologise to his brothers and be what he once was. Since that is not going to happen, Ed is out of the poll for me.

The above Michael Stipe pipe dream just isn't going to happen so it's not worth considering, plus as awesome as he is, I don't think he'd quite fit if CCP went into all out rock mode. I can't quite see Stipe being comfortable with the power of White, Discussion.

So that leaves the Shinn dude which I know little about. I don't dislike what I've heard of him, I don't think he sounds all that unique, certainly not as immediately recognisable as Ed. But he can rock, he's got energy from what I can see, can still write a good song, is more compatible to the sort of style of music that CCP want to play. So I went for him. Just like with Kevin Martin, I'm cautious but optimistic that CCP know what they're doing and when they've been in control or joint control with Ed, they've got a stellar track record in not disappointing me, so I have faith in them and their decision if it is Shinn.
Maybe I'd love it, maybe I won't.

So out of this, CS.

At this point, I just want to know who the hell it is. I am sick of waiting. I've never heard of a band teasing the fans on Twitter and Facebook, going into the studio, and holding back on revealling a new lead singer. Just do it already.

Maybe there's complications and it's not yet solidified?

Whoever sings the best and helps them write the best songs.

That's my vote.

There should be two Ed choices. One for Ed pre-2000 and one for Ed now.

What type of choice is that? That's like saying well you can be healthy, or you can have a flesh eating bacteria. You pick.

Makes me think of the old Sesame Street song, "One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just isn't the same."

We all speculate that Chris is the singer, and I just thought it would be just another bit of news that Chris was going on Chad's twitter and following his followers. You don't have to force yourself to sound like a jackass all the time.

It's as reasonable as having Michael Stipe as an option.

But remember for those of us that don't know any little tidbit might be a clue, the rest of us are still in the dark trying to put the pieces together.
