Just discovered the forums about a week ago. Been reading the hilarious posts about SFBM, V and Alive, but I've never heard them. So I set out on a musical journey to discover them for myself.

I dimmed the lights, put on a pair of my pro headphones and turned the volume up. For the next hour or so, I listened... and listened... and what I heard gave me the chills (not the good ones). When it was finally, mercifully over, my head was reeling as I leaned over the side of the bed and vomited all over my shoes. When I was done wretching, I dragged my weakened body over to the computer to write this review. It will be short.

First, I must confirm every single negative comment posted about these albums. They are the trifecta of awfulness. I bet someone right now is listening to Alive in a dental chair, waiting for their face to become numb.

Ed seems determined to make it to Elvis land. 20 years from now, he will be in Vegas, playing acoustic versions of Alive (backed by a ukulele player!) to a bunch of health and wellness professionals at Caesar's Palace. As Ed tries to talk over the chatting audience, who are sipping their melon martinis, laughing and hiding their weddings rings, the two people in the room who are paying attention will hear this:

"That part of my life that was fodder for songs about my daughter, down by the water... " And then he will launch into Love Shines.

In conclusion, it's hard to pick a winner here. They're all so very horrible. Some of the previous posts about Show and Sofia gave me hope. Nope, they suck too.

The only song where old Ed shows up is Zion. That song rocks.

If you haven't heard these albums, believe the hype. Compared to SFBM and V, Birds of Pray is a sonic masterpiece. And Alive should be banned forever to those horrible Christian rock stations on Interstate 5 between Los Angeles and Fresno.

Excellent. I must give rep points for this one. It really makes me wonder how some people actually like Alive and the latter Live releases. It's the zombie-like Ed followers who do. uhoh.gif

I'm allowed to like the latter Live releases in some way if I also openly acknowledge their VAST inferiority to the classic albums.... right?

I just re-listened to zion, and realized how similar it is to Radiant Sea.

Definitely. It's that if you look at the big picture those latter releases were just garbage compared to Live's early works.

You are totally right. Similar beat and style. I always thought both Radiant Sea and Zion were over-rated if you could even call them that..

Ed is great at recycling junk with junk apparently. no.gif

What a trifecta of trash those 3 discs are. Didn't bother to own 2 of them, and broke my V disc into many tiny pieces so as to erase the memory of it ever existing and my having ever owned it. That's not Live. It's a castrated, lifeless, soulless, w/o passion, dumbed down version of what was my favorite band. The passion of their music is what drew so many of us to them, but those discs could've been written by and performed by Ed's kids in 15 minutes they were so bland. I contend they were written by his kids, what else could explain just how horrendous they are? How anyone can say ANYTHING positive about those discs perplexes me to the verge of a brain aneurysm. It's like the Metallica "fans" that claim Load and ReLoad (Suck and ReSuck) are their best albums and than go on to blast the masterpieces that are Master Of Puppets and And Justice For All. Just absolutely fucking mind blowing the trash some people will accept as music.

Man, this whole thread including this post is just simply ridiculous. You all are like the masters of the review. It is really easy to judge when all you do is listen. Why don't any of you record a cd and throw it in for the public review - We will put all the dots in needed places.

I am not one of those die hard fans to sit and cry about how LIVE's new albums suck, but I enjoy LIVE very much. Everything that was there to prove, has already been proven: TC, SS, and possibly TDTH. And even if they will make another 10 records which will not meet the criteria - who cares? - relax, there will always be someone (another listener) who will enjoy them.

Man, I love Lou Reed, but there is so much nonsense that was release by him during the time course of his solo work. Doesn't stop me from listening to him. And this example goes for every band that is still around or is long time go.

The conclusion - get a life, yo!

I got to say, I hate this argument as I've said before. The idea that you shouldn't have an opinion on whether something is bad (or by proxy, good) unless you can match what it is you're critiquing is just bullshit.
I don't need to be able to sing as well as Ed to say SFBM is shit. I've used the analogy before that if you're watching your team play whatever sport and they play like absolute shit and get hammered then you should be able to say that they were shit. It doesn't mean you could have gone out there and done a better job than they did, of course not, you're not a professional athlete, but that doesn't mean you might not have a sound understanding of the game and able to make a statement about it.

Pokey, totally agreed. I am very objective as well. If something is good I will say it's good and vice versa.

Hey figure8, those are my 2 favorite bands I spoke of, but I'm also not a blind homer, I'm realistic. Also, I AM a musician, I am trained from classical to modern music and have much respect in my area in my craft, so I can judge when something is lacking any creativity musically and lyrically a little more than the average person. I'm not being pompous, just stating a fact. The difference in lack of creativity from Live's early disc's to those 3 are astounding...same w/ the Metallica discs I mentioned. I'm sure there are people that enjoy them and that's their choice, and I 100% support them, I may not understand why they enjoy them and they may not understand why I do not. Did I record anything and put it out there, No. But if I had everyone would be welcome to enjoy it or trash me to no end. Last time I checked I was entitled to my opinion, especially since this is a thread about said discs. I stated a opinion on a thread, I'm certainly not crying, disappointed by them, sure. Why that brings a uncalled for attack of "get a life comment" from you I do not understand. I never said I cut ties with those bands. We have banter on these boards, that's what they're for, no one is right or wrong on something that is a opinion. I can see from your ratio of number of posts to rep points that it is astoundingly rare you actually make a legitimate or logical point. So with all due respect, SUCK IT POTSIE.

Well, what can I say. The statement "SUCK IT POTSIE" did hurt my feelings, but I will make it. Also "I can see from your ratio of number of posts to rep points that it is astoundingly rare you actually make a legitimate or logical point." - completely true as well.

Now mine "get a life" was more of a rap line for a song, as I did not want to hurt anybody's feelings.

So good morning to everybody and have a nice day. Don't forget to smile smile.gif

My sincere apologies. That can be a issue w/ emails and posts sometimes, it can be taken out of the context it was meant to be. I like your post, not enough people smile in the world anymore, so many people wear permanent scowls. It's quite sad.

V still is a shitty album (finished product), although Deep Enough is great (the old concert version).
