The above is a link to a video I just uploaded of the mispressed 2003 Heaven vinyl single which plays P. Diddy instead of Live.

Many of you may not know, but Live's 2003 debut single from the album "Birds of Pray" was released as a promotional 7" picture disc vinyl in Europe. However, the vinyl single was initially pressed with the wrong tracklist. Not just the wrong tracklist, but the wrong BAND! This single, somehow, passed all test pressings (if there were any) and got released to the public containing mixes of P. Diddy's "Let's Get Ill". This video contains an intro and also a full play of the a-side of this single. The b-side video is soon to follow.

Interesting video... I skipped through the rendition of the P. Diddy track because I value my hearing but your introduction was very good.

I don't know about other bands, but I think Live did reasonably well with their vinyl releases over the years. The FOL Holiday Gifts used to be on vinyl for a while, with the red/blue swirl 10 inch being a standout. Post 2000, Live vinyl releases pretty much stopped but from 1991 - 1999 they were regularly pressed.

Re: the Heaven missprint. Somebody should have been fired over that, but by that stage I think nobody really cared about about Live releases. The record label obviously didn't. To be honest, vinyl records are just for show - anybody who actually plays them is in for some disappointment. You only had to listen to the first 10 seconds of the P.Diddy track. Pops, clicks, crackles - appalling.

Thanks for posting the video. Hope to see more in the future.

PS. If anybody wants to see the extent of Swami's collection - take a look at his other videos on YouTube. Some cool stuff there.

Some copies of the Heaven vinyl actually do play the correct tracklist, and I'm pretty sure it plays at 45rpm...I no longer own it, though.

I guess I'm being a bit unfair when I say that Live "never really cared" for vinyl. You're right...from 1991 to 1999 we did get a fair amount of them, and they were interesting to look at. I suppose that I'm comparing their release of vinyls to Depeche Mode, who between 1991 and 1999 probably put out 500 vinyl singles wink.gif

The Side B video is coming soon, by the way. I just need to upload it.

Great info, and great video Swami. Thanks for posting ! thumbsup.gif

But, this brings up a more serious question ... Why do you own a P Diddy CD ???!!! (It takes away from your +LIVE+ cred a little laugh.gif )

Aha! Well, you see...in 2003 when this single was released, it was not so easy to pirate an album or a single. So, in the interest of learning more about what went wrong with this vinyl, I actually put on some pants and got to HMV where I exchanged hard currency for a physical disc. An absurd suggestion these days, but yes, there was a point in distant history when human beings had to exit their couches to engage in a strange ritual described in the texts as "commerce".

wink.gif But seriously, I bought the P. Diddy single to know which mixes were on the vinyl.

Well, I don't think it was officially released to the public, but the Dutch fan club got hold of a box with these mispressings. I think your copy is somehow sourced from there.

That could be. Did the Dutch fanclub also get a box of the properly pressed ones?
