To continue trying to add some more positivity to this place in leu of new music to talk about, I thought we could compile some stand out performances from the guys in particular songs where they shine.
Songs where one member totally steps to the front and makes the song anything but generic.
For example Pat completely owning in Heropsychodreamer. Perhaps people here who play in bands can highlight some particular moments they find impressive from a more technical stand point. I love hearing about these sort of things because it can bring you new appreciation of songs when you learn to look at them.  I love listening to and seeing bands with some of my friends and cousins who give insight from their more experienced point of view. If my friend who is a fucking amazing drummer says "this part is really impressive because..." it can really make me see the song differently when I really know what I'm hearing.

Personally as I mentioned Pat's bass in Heropsychodreamer is relentless. He's a beast driving that song. I love when he's the force behind a song. I think that's why I'm going to love this Labor of Love song, it seems to be a "Pat-song".

Ed's voice in The Distance is great for showing the best of his range when he's on song. His range isn't huge but I always thought this one captured him going from low to high really well.

CG's drumming on Iris, like Pat in Hero, is just relentless. I love it. When it kicks in it's like a freight train that you just can't stop. I love the momentum he makes you feel on this one.

Again Ed's voice in any version of Supernatural to me is about as perfect a voice can get. The way he elongates the word Supernatural is chilling. The outro when he sometimes sings "maybe! Maybe!" is magic. It's almost got a country tinge the way he draws out Maybe to sound more like May-beh-heh-hi. I love when he did more intersting things with his voice like this.

Get the talk back to what really matters - the music!

So, share away.

I think CT's performances on Waitress on TC tours need mention. He really breaks it out.

Also to mention Operation Spirit solo by CT, total madness. I think the song not mentioned yet is Gas Hed Goes West, on the album , bridge into the solo and return simply sends me to shivers.

CG on IRis, total madman. Pat on Hero, that's what makes that song so so good. THe music less the lyrics.....i think we'll also know 3/4 of the weight carry it very very far.

Who's got the tools to strip out the lyric tracks to all albums MJ TC SS & TDTH? I bet we'd be going WOW.

edit: note, I am not rippin on Ed here, simply supporting the arguement that the music will set you free!!!

Everything about Where Fishes Go is perfect to me. Just such haunting sounds from the violins and the guitars. Ed's voice is just as haunting. The bridge at 2:30 is fucking awesome. CG's cool snare drum work. Ed singing "sea" coupled with the guitar? effects actually make it sound like it's some sonar sounds under water. And the howling vocals at 2:43 and then "I I couldn't take it anymore" is Ed at his best. They just captured this underwater atmosphere with this song and it fits perfectly with the lyrics.

This is my favourite Live song. That is if I had to choose one. Cause there are so many, but ya. This song would be my pick if I had to choose one.

I think Ed's vocals in Sparkle are belting.

I remember hearing WFG for the first time (i think.....) at Rockfest in Atlanta. What an incredible song! Chad came out with Ruby Lou and got the crowd pumped. Then Gracey and Pat joined in and Chad T just wailed for a little while. Then Ed comes out with the cowboy hat on and the cain. Love that song.

The Pat song that stands out for me is TBD. He sets the tone. He was pretty awesome on OK. That album was pretty horrible and that song lyrically was one of the worst. I'd actually love to hear V as an instrumental album. It would be much better, no offense to Ed.

I always liked Chad T's guitar work in Graze. Turn My Head was one of his best solos. Softer than normal but so much emotion. Lakini's Juice........wow. What a riff. And so much fun to see him play live. I guess SS was Chad T's best album in my opinion.

Gracey was really strong in Mother Earth......That is one of my all time favorite songs.

I think White,Discussion is a song that really highlighted each band member.

I'd also add that the Unplugged show LIVE did is the best of all time. A lot of people say Pearl Jam but I think LIVE was just so spot on. Perfect.

That should have been a commercial release.

Yeah, this song is ridiculous. It was always in my top 5,but 13 years down the track,I'd say it would be number one now

I hardly ever listen to Live anymore,or any of my old cds. However I put TDTH on a few months back for the first time in a few years, and was blown away by WFG. They just don't make songs like that anymore. Your description of it is great thumbsup.gif
"I couldn't take it anymore so I went back to the seeeeeaaa,yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah....." ,probably the greatest moment in musical history for mine

It's funny, always thought TDTH was them moving away from the alternative rock sound, but when I listen to it now all these years later, compared to stuff today,it's still pretty out there

Have said it hundreds of times and am eager to repeat it again, it is the best record inthe history of music for me. Top of everything. Plain perfect.

The pic of it also is hanging on my wall above everything else.

It's hard to pick one. But the first thing that came to my mind is Chad Gracey on Good Pain. I can't think of another song by any group in which the drumming so totally defines the song. The drums become the realization of truth and represent the ecstatic spiritual transformation of the lyricist.

"The woman's love! The God's above! The Woman's love! No yet! No! NO!" ... when he's screaming that at the end of Susquohanna in the Rhode Island recording ... my god, awesome!
