So there's been a worldwide outbreak of zombies or a killer virus or something and, naturally, you end up needing to live out the rest of your days on a desert island. The person sending you there tells you that you have to choose between V or SFBM as the only album you can ever listen to again.

Now, of course, you spend the next few hours crying your heart out because neither album is anywhere close to the brilliance of the first four. But eventually, you do make a choice.

What's yours?

Sophie had it easy compared to this choice.

V, easily.
I have a bit of a personal emotional attatchment to V ... it hits me on a weird level that most other albums don't (and not just Live albums). It came out at a really shitty time and I latched onto it and I guess with so much crap going on in my life I didn't get it and analyse it straight away going "hey this isn't as good as the last one!" .. I just was excited for new Live material and the songs were a comfort. So now listening to it is not so much about the content, but the nostalgia of how it made me feel good in a bad time. Flow in particular.

Now retrospectivly I see it as the second worst Live album, but the worst is SFBM, so this is an easy choice tongue.gif

I'd rather listen to the first 10 seconds of Simple Creed all the time than the whole of SFBM.

So, yeah, V it is, then.

V. I have good memories of that whole time so it can't be all bad. SFBM is pitiful in my opinion, the first Live cd I didn't buy.

Definitely V.

Plus, leaving SFBM to the zombies will probably kill them off, eventually.

Yeah I went for V.

It was the second Live record I bought. I was pretty young, I didn't know any of the shit being spoken about it, and I hadn't heard any of Live's work before TDTH. I just knew the band had a new record out, and I went to buy it. I was actually quite enthusiastic about it and there still is a soft spot there for some of the tracks, namely Deep Enough TMYL. It's bombastic and in your face, or at least it tries to be, but it makes no apology for that. Since then I've naturally heard all the other stuff Live has done and my enthusiasm for the record has waned, but it still has an odd sort of appeal to me.

SFBM, - I nearly cried when I heard it. I was miserable. No fucking way I'd want it anywhere near me on a desert island.

I compared V to Queen's "Hot Space" & U2's "Achtung Baby" when it was released: I couldn't take hold to it like the previous albums, but just like Hot Space & Achtung Baby I grew to appreciate it because Live was taking a risk, which takes serious balls & once I had this understanding I grew to really enjoy it.

As for SFBM, well . . .

The V demo was much better than the over produced commercial CD.

First off, I'd avoid the situation by killing the person forcing the choice on me by making him listen to both at the same time.

Expressing how I feel though - both suck, but V is an unbelievable piece of shit on an epic scale. I put it in and it makes me want to puke all over myself vomit.gif . It is the worst CD I have ever payed for.

I listen to some of the tracks on V, and I think to myself that with different lyrics and Ed's old voice that they'd be some really good songs. Musically, there are a few decent tracks on there. It's just that the lyrics and Ed's voice are a total abortion.
