Maybe they're trying to make it rock, but they'll have to re-record it to make that happen. sarcasm.gif

this is freaking shameful. the band must be pissed... the label is making them look like a joke. legally, this might be grounds for the band to get out of contractual obligations to the label to do any new albums. i'd definitely look into that if i were them.

what the hell. why doesn't sony just put the thing out?

Unfortunately, you are right. Asisde from maybe 3-4 songs, the rest to me is unlistenable. Sure some of them are catchy but that doesn't mean it's good. cry.gif

A joke to who though? Aside from the few hundred fanatics who linger the message boards, the public have no idea this is happening. If it in the end this benefits Live, then good for them.

The only they could get out of their contract would be to break up.

The Sony Music family is really stupid when it comes to releasing albums. The Juliana Theory broke up because Sony screwed them in the ass. Fiona Apple's album was delayed by Sony for two years before it was released.

Basically, Sony's screwed a bunch of artists. In the end, it's all about the cash.

It seems that this is so. Sony released the album already where it would sell… that’s a shame.

it's like they keep waiting for the u.s. to care about the album before they put it out... what they don't realize is that it's never going to happen, at least initially.

throwing copper was a tremendous success in the u.s., but it didn't really take off until after it was out for 11 or 12 months. waiting for a big first week response is going to get sony nowhere.

unfortunately, there aren't any songs on this latest offering that match what it means to be a 'hit' here in the states. and even if they did have songs like that, the only real way to get milage out of the album is to put the fricking thing out, tour ambitiously, and let word of mouth handle the rest.

We are not decision makers in music industry for good reason. The industry has changed. The music listening demographic has evolved (or lack of). 99% of us already have the leak so just listen to it and be happy. If in the end they believe this will help Live make them more money then so be it.

Sure seems like they are really on the fence about wheter or not to release it in the US. You can question Sony all you want but they at least put The River out there and it hasn't done squat on radio. Live didn't have major support prior to Throwing Copper but it took off on it's own thanks to Selling the Drama, I Alone, then Lightning Crashes. If The River were making serious waves laugh.gif they wouldn't be jacking around with the release. Seems like they have made an effort with all of Ed's promo stuff but The River just isn't catching on. Hopefully they'll just release it and be happy with the sales from the remaining fan base they have. This will certainly be it for major label releases. Maybe they'll do better on their own. Maybe this is what is needed for some true creativity to happen again. Whatever, I wouldn't get too freaked out because you can get the music if you want it and who cares if they are a mainstream success anyway. Collective Soul has seemed to manage fine on their own.

For what it's worth, according to a contact that works for Sony, the confusion right now is not due to a decision about whether or not to release the album at all, but rather about the best time to release it. According to him, the album will get released, but Sony is trying to release it at a time that will maximize its sales.

I don't know if the fact that the screwy up-and-down placement of the album on the Sony music site is related to the American Idol "I Walk the Line" thing, but the timing of both seems to make that a certain possibility. I still wouldn't be surprised if Sony makes an attempt to capitalize on that in some way, through a bonus track, bonus download, or something.

"I walk the Line" performed by an American Idol as a bonus track on a +Live+ record?!? Boy, that would be pathetic!! no.gif

I thought his "connection" with Live was helping him to get famous, not the other way around... uhoh.gif
But, judging by Ed's attitude towards the whole "Idol"-thing, that's not very likely to happen...luckily!!
