I don't get the anger at calling the album "Alive". So what?

It isn't just that, it is that on the cover it says:

"aLIVE"

If you don't see the issue with that, there isn't any way that I can explain it. The biggest reason is that it is clearly all about the money and record sales now for Ed.

That is not art, unless you consider marketing to be art.

Since the earlier post was closed, there is a big difference between doing promotional photos, videos, etc. and naming your album just for marketing. Every band does promotion on some level, but they do it so people will listen to their art. Ed's art has clearly become making money.

Will impact radio ...... really? That's some strong verbage.

If the album will actually appear as "aLive" that's asshole. Ed - you're not a Live member anymore.

Meh, big fuss over nothing. Ed is linking back to his old band - what's surprising, shocking, or wrong about that? He's bridgind the gap between Live (the past) and feeling alive (the present). Perfect and smart name for the album, really.

People are crying over Ed's album name because they don't like Ed and/or what people say about him.

If the issue you you said was there, I would possibly agree with you: its not good when Ed names his album a name only for promotion reasons.

But where do you see a difference in the "A" and "LIVE" in the artwork? I think it's just ALIVE, without meaning anything more.

Since Ed is releasing on major labels overseas, I think Grace will do well in those markets. That will probably be Ed's primary focus. Being indie in the US, it will be tough to get signifigant airplay. That is probably why it is a good move to attack the Christian market first in the states. The song fits that format really well.

I concede, in the smaller image it looked like the "a" was uncapitalized. I wasn't the only one who thought so, but I was wrong about that.

I take back what I said... partially. Let me explain.

It isn't that I am "looking for things to say about Ed." Naming the album Alive as a way to link back to the original band goes right along with the Ed we've seen in recent years. This Ed is the antithesis of the Ed that many of us became fans of. Ya know, the Ed that worked with his bandmates to name albums titles like Secret Samadhi and The Distance to Here.

The title Alive is so cliched in comparison, and I still maintain that naming your album something that links back to the old band is selling out. That, I suppose, is a matter of perspective, but to me that isn't art. It is corpse cold marketing and promotion. If anyone bases the artists they like in how many albums they sell, if they are on the radio, and whether their marketing is strong then to me that is missing the entire point of making music in the first place.

The only reason I come over here is because I really want to find something to enjoy in Ed's current work. Instead things keep popping up that make me cringe even more. It is somewhat amusing watching the bar sink even lower.

don't concede.

The post TDTH fans don't realize the LIVE is LIVE with a tilde over the I. He's using the Live name. I don't really care, he won't get my cash!!

That's a good article. I think it should be required that every article mentioning his album also mention how he fucked over his bandmates and lifelong friends and will soon find his sorry ass in court.
