3 Doors Down & Friends auction, concert set for Dec. 5

Aaron Lewis of Staind will be among the musicians joining 3 Doors Down at an annual charity event taking place next week in Biloxi, and the six-year-old function also will feature its first charity motorcycle ride.

The “3 Doors Down & Friends” concert and auction is presented by The Better Life Foundation, a charitable organization founded by members of 3 Doors Down. The event, sponsored by the Mississippi Army National Guard, takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi on Dec. 5.

3 Doors Down was formed in Escatawpa, Miss., and its foundation has a tradition of making substantial donations to nonprofit organizations all along the Gulf Coast, including the Mobile area, particularly to groups that work with children. Last year’s concert and auction reportedly raised more than $250,000.

This year, a silent auction will take place in the Hard Rock lobby from 2 to 4:45 p.m. the day of the concert. Items up for bid include a wide variety of sports and music memorabilia. Examples listed at the foundation’s Web site range from guitars autographed by the Kings of Leon and Widespread Panic to autographed footballs and a helmet signed by race driver Danica Patrick.

At 5:30 p.m., a drawing will be held for a custom “Citizen Soldier II” motorcycle built by Bourget’s Bike Works and valued at $80,000. Raffle tickets are $10, and can be purchased at www.3doorsdown.com and www.thebetterlifefoundation.org. Ticketholders do not need to be present to win.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the concert, with music starting at 6 p.m. According to information provided by the foundation, it will feature performances by 3 Doors Down; Lewis, front man for the multi-platinum group Staind; Ed Kowalczyk, singer for the group Live; and Mobile-based rock band Top of the Orange.

General admission tickets for the concert are $75. VIP balcony tickets, which include food and bar, are $199. They are available through Ticketmaster and the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi box office.

Dec. 5 activities at the Hard Rock will be preceded by a charity ride that rolls from the Harley-Davidson dealership in Biloxi at 9 a.m. Riders will travel to Eastern Shore Harley Davidson in Daphne for lunch, then will travel to the Hard Rock.

Registration is $35, which includes T-shirt and motorcycle raffle ticket. Advance registration must be postmarked by Monday; a downloadable registration form can be found at the foundation’s Web site. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 5.
