What, they took the lyrics from another song and reworked it with original music? Essentially making it a different song? Apologies, I am ignorant in regards to the roots of this song.

I just listened to the original, and the main hook of the song is pretty similar to Live's version. However, Live's guitar riff and bass line are original. I'm sure if they changed the lyrics and tweaked the melody slightly it would be fine.

I said it before, but Live's best chance at gaining commercial success now is a covers album. They do covers very well, each one they've done I prefer to the original and they change them enough to make them interesting and different. If they were to really hit the nail on the head with a few big well known songs even though it's a cheap way of regaining populairty, it'd keep Nick happy at least.
