IPB Image This is the album analysis for Birds Of Pray. IPB Image

The Idea - Analyze the album (in this case BOP) song by song, stating whatever you want or whatever comes to mind about each song.

Go into as much or as little detail as you want and then summarize your overall thoughts on the album at the end. Just speak your mind openly.

You can copy and paste the following to make it easy if you want:

1. Heaven
2. She
3. The Sanctity Of Dreams
4. Run Away
5. Life Marches On
6. Like I Do
7. Sweet Release
8. Everytime I See Your Face
9. Lighthouse
10. River Town
11. Out To Dry
12. Bring The People Together
13. What Are We Fighting For?

Worst album made by Live only because it has River Town and Run Away. It's got some good stuff like Like I Do and Lighthouse though. Just my opinion.

This was actually the first Live album I listened to. I like the energy, but it just got so repetitive. Variety is lacking and it really drags on at the end. A lot of the songs are fun, but in no way add to the cohesiveness of the album. It feels like pop-rock created by people that can do a hell of a lot better. I guess its a step up from V from most people, but I enjoyed V a lot more just because it was so rediculous that it was fun to listen to.

Sorry if this paragraph is horribly written, but i don't care enough to take the time to write something with good style about this album. Hell, at least its not SFBM.

the first live album i bought myself and it spun in my cd-rom for well over a year. Im a sucker for this album, and while it has lost some of its coolness over the years especially since discovering the other albums, it will kinda always be my favourite.

i really dont understand why a common complaint with this disc is an apparent lack of passion on behalf of the band, when i actually find it to be deeply passionate. Lighthouse is powerful and moving and heaven is delivered with gentle devotion. Life marches On is a great road song as are most of the others.

sure there are corny bits, but it never got boring for me. Maybe had i started with the earlier albums my opinion would be different. I do however understand that, considering what had come before, Live did not deliver the spiritual, brooding, metaphore-ridden punch most had come to expect.

objective opinion: A weak effort with odd moments of brilliance

It was the last album I bought, I really agree with what most of you are saying. The album is better than SFBM and I felt it had energy.

I can post a full album review later when I get home to listen to it. I always listen to the songs before I write about them. Off the top of my head, Life Marches on is a joke.

1. Heaven
Great song, Seems like odd placement. I hate how easy it is to turn this song into something christian... It's not! I find it interesting how many people I meet that know this song when I never heard it in 2003 or whenever this album was released.

2. She
Too short, but great chorus! I can't help but laugh at the part around 1:58 where Ed is like "I never knew..." and proceeds to say a word so high I can't even understand it.

3. The Sanctity Of Dreams

This song bones. Too corny, tons of random lines that don't fit together. I like the shoutout to Vine street. Loving the drums though.

4. Run Away
In no way did this deserves to be a single. This song sucks, the "Nobody Knows" of the album. Great album placement though, a true crap sandwich laugh.gif

5. Life Marches On
These lyrics are a joke. As is said many times on this board, Even Liverock's retarded 8 year old or whatever can write better. Good thing it is blissfully short.

Hilarious line: Everybody thinks we're dumb, But we built the fire
Whyn't you come and get you some? (New word, whyn't: contraction of why, do, and not)

6. Like I Do
The start sounds like Night of Nights to me... aggressive.gif This song has alot of energy and follows the old live formula with the slow build up. This song has aggressive instruments that actually overpower Ed in the chorus which is good. Chad obviously had a great drumming day when this song was created. I'd have to say the saddest part about this album is how short everything is, this is the longest song at 4:14.

7. Sweet Release
One of my favourites! Purely about sex this song is. I love the echoes in the chorous and some of the lyrics aren't too bad. "Doubt, get right behind me" sometimes means something to me.

8. Everytime I See Your Face
This song has a memorable chorus. Probably the happiest I have ever heard someone say "god damn" in my life though. Sounds kinda fruity but whatever, it is decent.

9. Lighthouse

This song rocks! rockin.gif There is so much energy in this song, It is my favourite at the time of writing. No corny lyrics here, just good stuff. This could have been a radio hit if they would have pushed it. In my dreams, the next album would have songs just like this.

10. River Town
This song is uninspired... It is kinda painful to hear. The part about an ace up the sleeve is offensive to my ears. Weak chorus, I forgot it even had one.

11. Out To Dry
This song is just like Everytime I see your face. It has a memorable chorus but lacking everywhere else. This song is confusingly happy too... kinda scares me.

12. Bring The People Together
The chorus is just the title 2 times in a row! What kinda rip is that?? It needed to be slowed down b/c some of the lyrics aren't too bad. Imagine this slowed down dramatically and done like "Overcome" It could have been much better.

13. What Are We Fighting For?

This song is alright. I bet they thought by bringing it down at 2:28 and starting up again it was creative, it annoys me b/c I thought the song might have been over. They could have put some kids singing the chorus and this song would have been much better. I have some kick ass ideas in my opinion... thumbsup.gif

Overall:

It has its good, it has its bad. I like half the songs. I think it is either on par with V or just a little worse. V had crap but V knew how to have fun. BoP is like going somewhere with your mom; sometimes she can rock but most of the time you just want her to be quiet and stop embarrassing you.

V is similar to going somewhere with your Dad; You get the sense that he is trying to "do what the kids are into" and you are embarrassed to have him meet your friends. You are also embarrassed if he talks about anything sexual.

As long as I am on a roll here, SFBM is like your little sister. You know at least one person that says she's hot and you tell them they are sick and wrong for thinking like that. She is high pitched and annoying but you know you have to like her because she's family... Sometimes you wish she never existed. no.gif

I like the V, BOP and SFBM family analogies. I guess that makes SFBM lovers pedophiles, eh? Seems about right. banana.gif

I LOVE SFBM. It is in my car CD player the most out of all my CD's. It's in there now. It's certainly not my favorite, but for right now, it's very relevant to what's going on in my life so it helps to listen. music.gif

Birds of Pray?? I LOVE Runaway, Like I Do, Out to Dry, Sweet Release... I really like BOP too! tongue2.gif
