Hey people! 9 nights Live in a row tongue2.gif (

First, for the people who áren't familiar with this

QUOTE
Night of the Proms is a series of concerts held yearly in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Regularly there are also shows in France, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and the Scandinavian countries. The concerts consist of a combination of pop music and popular classical music (often combined) and various well-known musicians and groups usually participate (see below).
Night of the Proms is the biggest annually organized indoor event in Europe.

Not to be confused with the Last Night of the Proms, which is the last concert of the BBC Proms, a series of seventy or so classical concerts held yearly in the Royal Albert Hall in London.

American rock band LIVE in Antwerp

2008-03-11 09:33:00

Live is the fourth name on this year’s Night of the Proms programme in Antwerp. The American alternative rock band joins Simple Minds, Sinéad O’Connor and the comic musicians Igudesman & Joo at the concerts in the Sportpaleis. With wednesday 29 October added, 9 shows are now programmed in Antwerp.

Lead singer/frontman/guitarist Ed Kowalczyk, leadguitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey released ‘Mental Jewelry’, their first album under the name Live, in 1991. It was the start of a success story lasting up till today and resulting in 8 albums (total CD sales exceeding 20 million), a huge international fan base and extensive touring all over the world. The breakthrough came in 1994 with the album ‘Throwing Copper’ and the hit singles ‘I Alone’, ‘Selling The Drama’, ‘All Over You’ and ‘Lightning Crashes’. Later smash hits were ‘The Dolphin’s Cry’, ‘Run To The Water’, ‘They Stood Up For Love’, ‘Overcome’, ‘Heaven’ and ‘The River’.

“My approach as a songwriter is to write songs that are not finite and will resonate with listeners for a really long time”, Kowalczyk asserts. “One of the reasons why we have had so many fans for so long is that our fans are also continuing to find nuances in our songs.” New nuances will certainly also be discovered when Live is performing to the accompaniment of the symphonic orchestra Il Novecento at Night of the Proms.

I don't know what every band is contributing to every night (too bad I have never been at any edition of it), but Live meets classic... can be something cool!

whooo, really hoping they are also participating in the Dutch edition (Rotterdam).

Hmm, mixed feelings. NotP is often considered a dead end for artists, on the other hand I do wonder what Live sounds like when backed by a classical orchestra.

Hmm, mixed feelings.

Yeah, same here. Most bands usually only play a few songs on NotP, and there's no way I'm going to see them do the same thing 9 nights in a row. I'd much rather had them here for one decent show instead of this...

I went to the site but don't really get it. I'm guessing these are different than normal concerts for the band. How so?

i found a short review at SOL

It was very very okay last evening .Before the break they did 3 songs :The Dolphins cry,They stood up for love and I alone.
After the break Overcome.
After the concert i heard several people say they were better then Simple MInds and indeed they were better , together with Sinead O Connor they were the best of the evening.
Nice to see them at work this way, they gave the full 100% i think

what did you expect? That all artist over there would have played more than a few songs at one night?

I think they chose nice songs to combine with the orchestra. But TSUFL or Lakini's Juice would be really cool as well. Maybe they change a bit each night?
