I am pretty sure that most will not care, but the Big Ten is sucking at major sports this year. Michigan loses to Appalachian State in football earlier this year, a Division I-AA team. Now Michigan State loses to Grand Valley State, a Division II team, in basketball. In addition, Division II Findlay defeated Ohio State in basketball also. The basketball games are exhibition, so they do not count in the standings, but what happened to the time when the Big Ten was dominant at most sports. At least the Big Ten still has field hockey, volleyball, and wrestling.

You can count the basketball losses as proof of the Big Ten's sucking, but worst of all is that OSU is actually #1 in football despite beating only Big Ten teams, Youngstown State, Akron, Washington, Northwestern and Kent State. Give me a fucking break. That kind of schedule is played by community colleges and high schools for the blind, not #1 teams. The reason I bring this up is because OSU will get into the BCS game only to be embarrassed once more, again showcasing the Big Ten's shortcomings on a national stage. Fuck the Big Ten. yay.gif

But the Big Ten is still a power conference. Should Ohio State be penalized for being the best team in a conference that is having a down year? If that's true, then Kansas should be penalized for playing in the Big 12 North and Boston College and Virginia Tech should be in trouble for playing in the ACC. Everyone hates on the Big Ten now because it has been such a power in the past, and will rise again in the future. People know that this is one of the few chances to get in shots. I mean, for three of the top four teams in the Big Ten, this year was supposed to be a rebuilding year. The Big Ten shall rise again...

Should Kansas, BC, VT and OSU be penalized for playing in shitty conferences? Yes. The same way we recognize that the winner of the Special Olympics is not a good athlete.

Last year, OSU was the winner of a much stronger Big Ten and got boned by UF. This was because the Big Ten has no speed or athleticism that can compare to much of what is seen in the south. For the same reason, VT got demolished by LSU this year, and BC lost to fucking FSU.

The only reason Kansas and OSU are undefeated is because they haven't played any fast and athletic teams. VT and BC both lost only in their single games against athletic teams from the south. Once Kansas and OSU have to do the same, the results will be the same. Unfortunately, because people never learn, we'll have to wait until the BCS game to see it just like last year.

All of which are meaningless. As a resident of Big 10 country it is obvious that there is a severe decline not only in the conference, but nation wide. It is just magnified here. The fact is that there is an ongoing shift in the college rankings and new teams are emerging as powerhouses. It's just surpising to see teams like Nebraska and Michigan, who have been dominate through past powershifts, to be suffering this severely.

To you, those sports may be meaningless, but to those who compete in them, they mean the world. As a former Division I wrestler, without wrestling as a sport, I would not have gone to my first college. Just because a sport doesn't make money for a university does not make it meaningless.

Meaningless to 99.9999999999% of the U.S. population. Even more meaningless worldwide.
