Is the career home runs record now tainted?

I honestly believe it is, but I also hate to speculate. Hopefully the investigation leads to some good evidence.

If it is proven that Bonds has used steroids then yes it is tainted. There is no way he should hold that record. no.gif

Even though I agree with you, I still hate the idea of Bonds even being 2nd all-time if he cheated. Hank Aaron and Willie Mays hit a lot of homers completely clean. They deserve to be ahead of Bonds. People always say the numbers don't lie, but they are partially wrong. The people whose names are by the numbers lie,but this causes the numbers to be wrong. I don't think Bonds hit all 756 of those home runs clean.

I agree. Even if Bond's record is shattered it still isn't fair that his name is even in the record books if he didn't break the record while completely clean. Maybe it is being talked about too much but I think it's a pretty big deal for baseball fans and the game itself. Baseball isn't what it used to be and it never will be. The whole game has become tainted and I think that's a real shame. I don't think that those players that have broken records while using performance enhancing drugs deserve to be mentioned in any record book, those records belong to the players that achieved them whlie clean. It sucks major ass that those players are getting their records broken by people that aren't playing fair.

Bonds would have passed Mays anyway even without steroids.

I agree with that. I don't think Bonds hit the juice until he was in his mid thirties when the injuries started to take a toll on him. He's always been a great player, just with a jackass of a personality. I think he was aided in achieving this record, but even without the juice, he'd have been a 600 homer guy easily.

Yeah you're right. It's just the fact that he cheated that bothers me. That sends a terrible message to baseball fans and, especially, to kids. It makes our sport look bad when really, as Heather said, baseball should have the best reputation of any American sport. But Bonds is still one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

As for passing Willie Mays, yeah it would've happened anyways. BUT in my opinion (and I am a HUGE baseball fan), Willie Mays is still the greatest to ever play baseball. Look at his numbers if your opinion differs. He just completely dominated. I wish I had been alive to see him play. I find it very ironic that he and Bonds have such a close relationship.

Yeah, Willie was a great all around player and I could see anybody making an argument for him being the best of all time. But I can see that argument being made for a few guys. Willie being one of them for sure.

The thing that gets me is that guys like Mays, Aaron, McCovey and a lot of the old greats, show a lot of class. They were all great sportsmen. I think it bothers me more that Bonds is a complete fucking idiot and void of any class. Juicing just puts it over the top for me.

You are right...baseball was more of a game back in the day. Now it's more of a show. The competitiveness is now driven by who's the biggest, most popular, and who makes the most money instead of who wants to win the game the most.

There are still a few guys in the game who have a lot of class (Biggio, Smoltz, Glavine, Griffey, etc.), but you'll notice the common theme with those guys is that they are getting to close to the point of retirement. I'm really scared about the road baseball is on. Look at what has happened to basketball and football. The majority of players in the NBA and NFL show no class or respect for their sports. I really don't want that to happen to baseball.

Yeah I could go on about this for hours. smile.gif

I don't find it to be boring. I was raised on baseball being from Baltimore. I went to my first game when I was a toddler and it is in my blood. I love the sound the bat makes when it connects with the ball and to me it is exciting. I will never forget how it felt when my team was in the playoffs or how exciting it is when opening day finally rolls around after a long cold Winter or the day that Cal Ripken Jr broke the record (now HE is a class act). I guess it's too slow of a game for some people but to each their own I guess. Maybe you have to be raised on it like some people are raised loving a certain football or hockey team.

Yep I know the feeling. I guess we all get the same feelings for our teams no matter what the sport. And yeah baseball is really not what it used to be and I have lost some interest in it because of that.
