I'd like to see them re-record (and maybe re-arrange/re-write) Savior for a Day, Paper Flowers or Libra (or maybe even all three) from their Public Affection days and put one or two of them on their next album. Who knows, maybe doing that will inspire them and allow them to start over from a fresh musical perspective.

Some may not like this idea, but they need to do something to reboot the band. Hey, it helps to reboot Windows every now and again... why not Live?

I wouldn't like to see material that was written 18 years ago appear on a new album. If Live were to re-record the tracks, then include them as b-sides on a single, but I wouldn't want it to take the place of a new track.

I see where you're coming from... what about putting it on the album as a hidden track?

Maybe... There are lots of avenues the band can take if they want to distribute some old tracks. Put them on the FOL Holiday CD, make them available to download on their website (in FLAC and mp3 format), bonus disc on the next album, create a limited run of CDs and sell them through the website and at shows...

I spoke with Jimmy Lang about this very issue (releasing outtakes or rereleasing old tracks) and he basically said it won't happen because the band just doesn't think it's cool to do something like that. He said he has closets full of stuff that we would all love to have, but the band doesn't want to be "living in the past" and wants to release only new material. CG was apparently the only one who sympathized with the fans and Jimmy on this. It's a neat idea, but I really doubt it's going to happen.

It fucking kills me to read that, but I'm glad you posted it. We've finally got official word on the reasons behind the lack of b-side and unreleased material being released. And to think that we've been blaming the record labels when all along it's been a directive from the band itself. no.gif

Well, alllllrighty then.... guess that'd put the kibosh on the purpose of this little thread.

Does Jimmy mean the band doesn't think that the "hip & trendy" people will think it's cool, or that they just personally don't think it's cool as in it's against their own personal tastes? I can live with the latter just fine, but the former would be a little too disappointing for me. I mean, why would/should they care if it's "cool" to the yuppies of the world? The yuppies have never really liked their music anyway...

Well that sucks! See, I could understand them saying if their old material sucked and with each album they got better and were somewhat embarrased by their earlier work. But they have no reason to feel that way because they have some great unreleased tracks that they need to take outta the closet and share with the world.

I got the impression that they truly just don't understand that people would enjoy it. They think it's an uncool thing to do mainly because they think nobody would be interested.

Well, thats sad to hear. I've always wanted to hear "Change" in good quality. It sounds like a song that could been a great 1. They should at least release the unreleased songs to the fan site who would definitely be interested.

As a Live fan, I would love to purchase a CD of the unreased tracks. I would also like to purchase a CD of all of the songs they have covered as Live like Imagine and others. I think that it would be totally cool. The bootlegs of these songs usually sound like crap.

I also would like to hear an updated version of Savior For A Day.

If this it really how the band feels about b-sides - then they clearly do not know what their fans want. They have been mismanaged for a very long time now. Most hardcore Live fans are dying to hear these unreleased tracks. I hope this is not the case, because the possibility of getting to hear these outtakes was the only shred of hope I had for my once favorite band. There is a huge possibility that they will never release another quality album. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to throw these songs up on iTunes - Damn shame!

PeaceOut,

Possum
