I am posing a thought provoking question to the fans of Live. If one of the four core members decided to call it quits, and the remaining three decided to keep moving on, which band member could they most afford to lose and which member could they least afford to lose. I am also going to preface this by stating that you cannot claim "that would never happen", "the band would have to stop", or "none of them could be replaced". You have to analyze this seriously and give a serious response. This is meant for you to seriously analyze what is most important to the band.

Here's what I think:

Most afford to lose: Chad Taylor cry.gif
Least afford to lose: Ed whistle.gif

Taylor has Ed's brother backing him up on tour. He could be the next lead guitar. Ed is the key and could not be replaced.

I would be sad to see any of them go because their chemistry on stage is unmatched and they all are so important to the band. I think they could all be replaced, but the transition would really hurt the band. Ed would be the hardest loss to overcome, but his brother would be a likely replacement. He doesn't have Ed's charisma or presence on stage, but believe he would do as good of a job as a possible fill-in. If Ed left though, I think a name change is in order.

personality wise, i would miss Chad Gracey the least... but on stage, touring im afraid patrick would be the easiest to replace (pref by Shawn).
hardest to replace, though it breaks my heart to admit it, would be Ed. Though i have all the faith in the world in Adam i dont think he's ready for this just yet. Getting there, but not there yet today or next year. Musically, vocally he could do it, but thats not all theres to it. I wonder if he'd want the job really.

Most affordable to lose: Pat.. cause you can "disguise" the lack of a bassplayers with guitars (and there are 3 ppl left at hand for that job... Ed, CT and Adam)

Least: Ed... even if Adam'd step in and do main vocals, the sound'd change.

I think Patrick Dahlheimer would be the easiest one to replace. You hardly can't hear him on Songs from Black Mountain, and although i like his coolness on stage i don't think he's got so much charisma. I still IPB Image u pat.gif

Ed would be the hardest one to replace, but I think Chad Taylor is nearly as important.

Pat is the easiest to replace. Ed is irreplaceable.

I still think he does. Actually they were all very cool in Wildwood this past July. Even Ed was nice as could be towards me and my girlfriend.

I wonder if Adam would want to step in for Ed...or if the other guys would want to hire ed's brother if he quit.

For my money, Gracey is most replaceable, followed by Pat, Chad T., and then Ed.

I should add that in my opinion, the singer is least replaceable in most instances, because the whole sound of the band often changes. Could be good, could be bad, but the band's identity definitely changes (think Van Halen).

Of course, there are rare instances where the singer changes and the band remains kind of the same (think AC/DC).

No, I don't think Adam would take Ed's place if anything should happen. I have read a lot of comments that Adam has made over the years about trying to distance his music from Live's. When Adam first started his solo act a few years ago he went under the name Adam Eric, this was before The Weight, instead of Kowalczyk so people wouldn't associate him with Ed. And I know of at least one instance that someone at a concert of his asked him to play a Live song and he politely declined saying he could play it but it wasn't his music.

So in my opinion, I don't think Adam would do it but I don't personally know him so I suppose it could be possible.

Though Patrick might be not so dominant in sound, I believe he is a very important person in the band in terms of keeping it all together. He is a very wise guy, and a goof. I'd say Chad Gracey is most affordable to lose as he seems to keep out of musical decisions and arguments and just plays his ass off. That said, I don't see how any one member could leave Live without a total breakup.

Obviously Ed is the hardest to lose as he practically personifies Live. He sets the direction, creates the music, writes the lyrics, and is both voice and face of the band.
