Just started listening to my long list of Live songs and on comes TURN MY HEAD, this is one of the most powerful songs i dont listen to enough, and i must say for all the passion and great guitars throughout, i find the lyrics somewhat lacking....

anyone, caught in you mystery
keep it angry
keep it whispy
i've fallen down
drunk on your juices

turn my head
turn my head
it's aimed at you

funky temple
your dress is torn to shreds
your eyes are crazy
i bowed to save my head and
i can't forget you
but i remember

turn my head
turn my head
it's aimed at you

oh no,
we came to love you all day
these bastards are leavin'
somebody's go to stay
whatever we called you
it's just a name
just a name

Anyone else agree, if someone would like to put the interpretaion foward as well would be great. I love the song!!! the lyrics just dont quite set it emtionally for me say like RTTW does.

Yes, that's what makes Secret Samadhi so unique from the rest of the albums. Even Ed agrees that most of the lyrics are so 'out there' that he still doesn't know what most of it's about!
I love this album for that because you can make your own interpretation.......at different times of your life!

3 words: PILLAR OF DAVIDSON!

what what what???

"Warm bodies, I sense
are not machines that can only make money"

I feel that way every time I wake up and have to go to work. The Lyric in PoD is awesome, especially for the common blue collar working man or woman.

Either I have a very dirty mind... actually I do have a very dirty mind.

You know how Iris is reputedly about a blow job. I think Turn My Head is about him repaying the debt and the head he's turning isn't the one on his shoulders.

Oooh er! tongue2.gif

I once found this at SongMeanings:
QUOTE
No matter how disturbing this may seem, I tend to agree with the sexual interpretation. I don't necessarily believe it was a rape, but I think the song is about being pressured in some sort of crazy gangbang and feeling guilty about it.

Maybe she was a prostitue or just a slutty aquaintance? Either way he feels guilty for treating her like crap.

"I've fallen down, drunk on your juices" - meaning he was caught up in the moment and did something he normally wouldn't.

I think the last verse is about how when they were finished all the guys (bastards) were leaving and he started to feel guilty... almost apologizing in the last line "it was just a name"

It fits the song allright, but as Leigh mentions even Ed does not seem to know exactly that all that is about. Or at least that's what he wants us to believe wink.gif

That's one of the huge reason's I've been a Live fan over many years - at different times in my life, the same songs have different meanings. I haven't really had that same experience with other bands, though I don't follow any other band nearly as much as I do Live.

My mother and father would wholeheartedly agree.
That is, if they'd ever heard the song before.

I disagree with you about Turn My Head. Great melody AND great lyrics - just like all of Secret Samadhi. I personally believe that not completely understanding the lyrics is what makes them so great.

As for my opinion on this...I'd probably go with Voodoo Lady. Love the song but the lyrics are just dumb.

I love this song too! The lyrics to me mean something a lot different than some of you guys were posting, but I guess it's good to have imagination lol! Here's what I think they mean:

anyone, caught in your mystery
keep it angry
keep it whispy
i've fallen down
drunk on your juices

(The lyrics "Your" here seems, talking ed-style anyway, to be referring to the abstract notion of God, or whatever you want to call it. Ed's pretty famous for his spiritual search, no?)

turn my head
turn my head
it's aimed at you

funky temple
your dress is torn to shreds
your eyes are crazy
i bowed to save my head and
i can't forget you
but i can't remember

(Here it seems he's making a reference to a common theme behind his music, the female muse, a sort of abstract concept surrounding the love and light of the universe. So, using this idea of an abstract muse, he's portraying her "body" ie, dress, eyes-as symbols for the manifestation of reality in entirety. Because, on a smaller scale we are all individual temples, but collectively we collaborate as a whole unified temple. Collectively, our "dress" is the physical reality around us, and look at the war around us, the poverty, the disease-- torn to shreds. Collectively, we all see through our eyes- but are we all really seeing? Too many people seem to be on autopilot instead of truly trying to navigate with their hearts.
When he's saying I can't forget you, but I can't remember I think he's referring to the fact that according to spiritual traditions we once were in this state of knowing, of perfect oneness and fell from that state (whole adam and eve symbol thing). The I can't forget you, but I can't remember is stating maybe that he's trying to return to that oneness, but can't seem to exactly pinpoint or find it yet in all his searchings).

turn my head
turn my head
it's aimed at you

oh no,
we came to love you all day
these bastards are leavin'
somebody's go to stay
whatever we called you
it's just a name
just a name

(Here it seems to be referring back to the whole idea that we came to be in accordance with "God", or whatever you like to refer the mystery of the universe as, but selfishness and pride (ego) turned us away from this perfect accordance=> hence the "these bastards are leavin', somebody's got to stay"
Whatever we called you it's just a name, just a name--- this has always been one of my favorite lines of this song, he's just referring to the notion of God being so much bigger than what any simple statement or distinction could give indication of).

Just my 2 cents!

I love the lyrics. Especially being "drunk on your juices" Damn!!! That's poetry right there.
I also read an interview with Ed that said the song was written for his girlfriend at the time. I wonder if she's the same girl who later became his wife. shrug.gif
On another note, has anyone ever seen Ed's wife? Just curious as to what she looks like. shrug.gif

Yep, that really is some imagination allright. But its yours so therefore you are entitled. sarcasm.gif
Also, take into consideration that Ed is a sexy, hot bloodied male and not all of his song lyrics are spiritual.
