Per the other inquiry. What if we got a new guitarist?

Hold the phone, don't shoot me

I think since Live has always had a touring guitarist on stage. Now Zak Loy...he could become the lead. CT always wanted to have more beef in there for stage sound. He seems too tied up in other business to focus on the band. There has been no activity since the EP, which was Loy anyway.

What other guitarists can step in and do the rhythm and leads and play off Ed and Pat?? Hennesey played with them for a show back in 2012. I am sure they can also get away with it musically, but the optics would be soap opera level musings.... just a hypothetical that is all.

Fair consideration. It’s just, I’ve always seen Taylor as the leader of the band, and what is a band without its leader? He’s so kind, and seems to still love what he does (at least this last tour he seemed to), I’d be crushed not to see him on stage. But hypothetically, I’d be most comfortable with Loy or Hennessy. Even Adam Kowalczyk, if he could do it.

I don't know if I see CT as the leader of the band... that's always been Ed to me. I see CT as more the heart and soul of the band.

Loy and Hennessy have written a few songs, but IMO they're more rhythm guitar players that occasionally play leads. They play better off others. Adam could definitely do it. He's been in bands since the 90's, starting with Portion.

I could also see Christopher Thorne in that role. He was fantastic with Live in the TDTH era.

Peter Klett (Candlebox, Royal Bliss) would crush that role. Jerry Cantrell (AIC) might work as well. I'd love to see what Stone Gossard or Mike McCready (PJ) could do. Mike Einziger (Incubus) would also be cool.

No Chad no live. The guy's music is a a mediation. There's nobody to replace him. Can't really replace gracey either. Try Lakini with no Chad. Try Iris with no Gracey. You get karaoke.

I get you here, and can agree.

All of these are good and plausible. Thanks, Bob. Your opinion, with your musician’s background, is interesting. My favorite suggestion if yours is Einziger from Incubus. Wished I’d thought of him. Good to know Adam K. could also do it.

Adam K could, but let's get some re-tread that can play in background. Loy can handle lead it fine. If you saw Ed solo, you would agree.

I did see Ed solo back in the day, and I just watched a video of Ed and Zak doing Heaven/With Or Without You as a refresher since it had been a long time. I also watched a few random videos of Loy soloing under The Distance. Zak can solo better than CT for sure, but that's not CT's forte, and even he would tell you that. He comes up with amazing hooks and can write a rhythm that sings on its own.

This is completely my opinion, so take it for the largest grain of salt you want: Zak can imitate CT fine, which we've been seeing for years, but having heard what Zak contributed on Local 717 with Love Lounge and Brother proves to me that he wouldn't be a good fit for Live's sound if he was to take lead.

They'd need to have rock solid rhythm with the ability to write catchy melodic hooks to carry the song, as well as be able to solo accordingly when the song calls for it, and feel what the song needs to become whole.

grandfalloon, I'd like to hear your thoughts. There are a lot of guitarists out there. Who would you choose?

I could list a few, such as Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)

James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins)

Pat Smear (Nirvana, Foos)

Krist Novoselic (Nirvana, Foos)

how's that for starters. Would be cool and the guys know them

As if any of those guitarists would even consider joining Live.

...and Krist Novoselic is a bass player.

A quick throwback to the only real guitarist of LIVE.

I made this compilation 13 years ago, haha. Wow, can't believe it's been that long. Most footage used is even much older.

Omg, why would you even begin to think it’s a “sore subject.” sarcasm.gif
Whose alternative account is this? Someone with a lingering issue with CT. banana.gif
