Voodoo Lady

Pretty cool song. Everytime i've seen them do this one in concert the crowd gets pretty into it.

When TDTH was about to come out, i hadn't actually heard this song yet so i got all excited and thought maybe "Change" had been changed to "Voodoo Lady". Was a little dissapointed but i still like the song

During the TDTH tour, it was awesome how Ed would run around the stage like a madman during live performances of this song. It really gave the song a lot of energy and sex appeal.

Although it wouldn't have been my first choice, I was glad they brought it back for the recent U.S. shows. Still, it seemed to have lost some of its momentum from its earlier days.

VL also contains one of the sexiest lines in any Live song, period: "Light up a cigarrette she said / And calm the fuck down."

i just remember hearing this song and thinking it sounded nothing like the band i knew.

tdth was very different than i expected it to be, considering i heard their preview material from those club shows in '98.

I kinda liked the intro Railo used to play on this song. It was one song I thought he fit in well on.

It was the highlight of the 2001 show I saw .. I never gave the song much thought before that but it was awesome. And again it's my favourite from that Pinkpop 2002 audio/video bootleg. It goes over amazingly live, but I do struggle a bit with it on the CD .. I find it a little dull.

Really do love this song. "Light up a cigarette she said, and calm the fuck down" could be my favorite Live lyric ever...would have to think about it though. Despite the love, I've never really dived into what the song means, except maybe a glance or two at the lyrics. Let's take a dip...
QUOTE
light up a cigarette she said
and calm the fuck down
you got a serious side to you
that could give the whole world a frown
now nothin' really matters to me you see
check out these holes in my gown
let your eyes lose their focus a little
let your guard come down

I was thirsty for everything
but water wasn't my style
guess we might have to teach me somethin'
guess we might have to show me how

now put out that cigarette she said
somethin' ain't right in here
it's tied to the both of us, I ain't sure now, it isn't clear
we could have been born helpless children
beggin' for our next meal
I could be a voodoo lady, just a classy hooker
playin' the field

classy holy hooker!!!
hey! I've made up my mind, yeah
I came to see your sign
disappear this mornin' but come back tonight

light up a cigarette she said
and calm the fuck down
relax and let your ears hear this beautiful song
that's hidin' underneath the sound

underneath the sound!!!
I made up my mind
I came to see you fly
disappear this mornin' but come back tonight

voodoo lady
voodoo lady
voodoo lady
voodoo lady
I was thirsty for everything but blood, wasn't my style!
voodoo lady
did I dream you up or are you for real?
are you for real?
are you for real?

Okay, I'm really bad at figuring out song lyrics, but looks like we got two people...guy and a girl...and one's a hooker or could have been a hooker...somebody's thirsty but isn't in the mood for a glass of water...the lady leaves but is coming back later...apparently the guy doesn't want blood or water...something to do with vampires? And at the end he wonders if the lady was for real or not.

Right... nervous.gif

I love, love, love this song. It wasnt until I saw this live (Bootleg PinkPop) that I fell in love with this song. They did not play it in NYC, I was really hoping they would have. There are so many LIVE songs on albums that I love that do not translate well in concert. (most of their slow stuff) but when they have anything remotly rocking it just explodes in concert. That is what I think this song does.

Listening to it right now..

I've been having a TDTH fix for the past few weeks.. I've never seen TDTH like the way I've been seeing it now. Voodoo lady definitely is one of the standout tracks in this album. It's intense but never explodes. Quite creative.

"Now put out that cigarette," she said ...

another interesting Live song i'd say, simply because its so different to everything else of TDTH. Not to mention it has probably the most simple bass line i've ever heard, and still much fun to play lol.gif

I'd say Voodoo Lady is the stand out 'experiment' from TDTH, and from its concert showings, awesome song. haha especially during the "it's tied to the both of us" part, like in the 2003 Vorst National show where Ed puts that confetti (or whatever it was) around himself and Chad T.

and the little improvisation Chad T does at the end of that song (Vorst National 2003 again, not sure if he does it in other concerts) was just pure, funky heaven music.gif

Agreed

Probably my favorite song off of TDTH. I love all the Live songs that kinda have that bluesy kind of feeling to them. I know Ed always says this song is for the ladies, but fuck I love to hear it in concert. I'm hoping they add it to the setlist this fall.
