Let me preface this by saying I strongly hope for a Live reunion with all four original members. However, I am currently bracing myself for what could be a harsh reality.

It's possible that Ed is buying the trademark to the name Live.

Think about it. If Shinn left the band, and CCP had no desire to continue on, it's very possible that CCP could sell the trademark to Ed rather than let the band die. This has happened before. Brett Scallions left Fuel in 2006. The remaining members replaced him. One album later, Scallions bought the trademark to Fuel and the rest of the band was replaced.

If this is happening, it would make total sense for both camps to be silent. It would make sense as to why Live's social media is down. It would make sense why Chad posted that cryptic Dr. Seuss post.

If Ed buys the trademark to Live, there will never be a reunion.

Ed would have everything he wants. Total control of the band. The ability to tour under the name Live. And to get the highest percentage of revenue possible from the gate.

It would also split the fanbase even further apart. Those in Ed's camp would say "Live was always just Ed." Those in CCP's camp would call it a sham.

Say what you will about CCP but I'm very glad they controlled the trademark post-breakup. So many 90s bands are just the lead singer and touring musicians. CCP holding the trademark is what is keeping a reunion even possible. Maybe Live 2.0 wasn't really Live, but CCP using the trademark and replacing Ed was the best thing from a legal perspective.

I hope we're going to have a reunion announcement very shortly. But if all we're getting is Ed controlling the trademark it'll be dark days ahead.

Sounds like a possibility. Very interesting take and i would not be mad if this happens, but only if CCP are retiring. You have brought up a very interesting topic here my friend and i can't wait to see the responses.

If CCP don't want to tour as Live anymore, it would make sense to sell the trademark to Ed. The fact that Chad said they maybe could discuss band stuff next year, makes me think that they aren't retiring though.

Also considering we don't know the details about the settlement in the court case. Some of the agreed rules may have not been met. Who knows. On the other hand, I have a hard time believing CCP would 'just' sell the brand they've been fighting for. But even then; they are businessmen so everything is negotiable, right?

But no one knows if they HAD to sell it or let it go for some reason and lost it, ofcourse. That would be sad, but we'll see.

i cannot fathom how this scenario could fit in this case. if they were even on terms, why would Live go out as a one piece (Ed) and his band? Isn't that what led to a lawsuit before? This might have merit if there was no friction before over all that had occurred since 2009.

If Ed bought the rights to Live, I would be embarrassed to tell people I love the band and they jump on youtube and see a video of something like the current music Ed is putting out.

Id rather no Live than Ed and his current band performing under the Live banner, at least CCCP rocked out a bit.
