I've wondered lately if my dissatisfaction with Live and Ed's performances over the last ten or so years is just a projection of my own separation from my personal roots.

During the same time I saw Live move further and further away from that signature "thing" they had in the 90s, I saw myself becoming less and less authentic as a person as I entered my 20s and eventually (now) my 30s. It's been an odd sort of parallel-arc.

I'm wondering, if I was fully-rooted within myself and my personal authenticity, if I'd care so much about Live's changes over the years. I mean - it's been (IMHO) 14 years since the last really good album and I come to this website every day.

Maybe it's not Live and Ed I'm frustrated with and grasping for and trying to connect with. Maybe it's myself.

Anyone else? smile.gif Or am I just a nutbag?

Nah, I think you are perfectly sane. I believe the dissatisfaction is due to growing older and missing something from our youth. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's music was a form of therapy. --Growing up in an abusive environment, my favorite bands provided much solace, comfort, and release.
To me, it's comparable to our parents bemoaning the passage of the 1960's. We are doing the same thing, wishing for things (music) to be the same now as it once was. Especially if music is so important to your soul.
