Chad Taylor posted a couple of messages on Facebook

Writing this album hasn't been a conventional process. It's taken all the kings men and all the kings horses to put us back together again. We had to learn to be a band again, to trust that the next moment would come to us. There is no scientific reasoning for any of this, but there is this guttural principle of hard work, dedication and discipline that has always been the force behind each expression. We follow it without any idea where we might end up, good or bad. I know when we do this, we're at our best - CT

The history and heritage of LIVE has become the standard by which all our new songs are being judged (like it or not). When you're writing and creating as a young artist, there are no such milestones for comparison. For the first time, my own measure of success is living up to or trying to exceed the goals I set and reached (or didn't reach) as a young artist. I'm sure this too has its own inherit limitation. We might be strapped down by 28 years of our own internal process, by our fans, by our success, and by our failures too. On the other hand, I am thankful that there are so many timeless elements of the band that are uniquely LIVE. Elements that as young artists we might have tried to cast aside. I can see now that in our past we may have forgone great material searching for the "new". New isn't necessarily better is it? For example, when I'm in the mood to hear AC/DC, I don't want to hear their experimental dance sessions. No, I want Back In Black, straight in your face rock n roll. So with this new album, I've had to really stay
in touch with what truly defines LIVE in order to make sure that the new LIVE is just like we remember...full of fresh inspired material but not a new band or a new sound or some gimmick. Just LIVE, nothing more, nothing less.

Chad really builds up my expectations when he says stuff like this. I only hope the album can live up to it.

I think it's meant to manage our expectations by saying they are burdened by their past success in a way, and how that means fans will expect the world from them. It seems like he's saying that they're going to try their best and be authentic but it's going to be tough to make something great, and they don't know what to expect.

Album update. Well, It's coming along. So many cool songs, taking shape. Don't think I have the capacity to write about the sound. It feels like a spiritual roller coaster that I want to ride over and over. Like all good thrill rides, there are moments you wonder why you got on....then it ends and you're excited to go back to the front of the line.

Chad Taylor is starting to remind me of those people who are always talking about the book they're going to write, or the big trip they're going to take some day, but who never actually do the work to achieve that goal.

It's really weird to say, but it feels like Ed might have been the one who provided the fire necessary for the band to actually get albums done. Whether those albums were good is a totally different matter, but has Live ever worked on an album for as long as they've worked on this one? We're in year three now, right? Or is it four?

It's not like they've recorded 60 tracks and are narrowing it down. It sounds like they haven't even cracked the double digit mark yet. Maybe their passion has gone somewhere else at this point. If so, it might be better if they just admit that and let their remaining fans move on.

Chad Gracey said on Facebook that they have completed 4 tracks and they have another 4 in progress. This was a couple of weeks ago.

More like year 1-2. And they're getting it done and toured. Right after they put out a TGF album and toured.
