Can't wait to see Shinn in the lineup. Having seen the "Art Alexakis Band" several times, they are a lot of fun and put on a good show. Looking forward to seeing Sponge again, I haven't seen them since they opened for Live in '95. Glad to see that Denver got a club date. As much as I hate co-headlining tours, I'll be there for sure.

Looks like the Denver show will be broadcast on AXS TV. It is unclear which band's sets will be broadcast. Odds are it will just be Everclear, they normally only broadcast the headliner. I'll set the DVR and share whatever is broadcast.

Picked up my tickets yesterday.

And picked up this nice print to add to my +Live+ collection:

(Funny enough, I picked up the print on Vine Street)

Hoping to get Chad to sign it after the show this summer. guitar.gif

AXS is broadcasting the entire show. Anyone here able to capture and put on YouTube or DVD in decent quality? I cancelled my DirecTV, so this is really the only time Im wishing I still had it nervous.gif

I watched and recorded it. Not sure how I'd get it off of the DVR, that and during I Alone the Emergency Broadcast System conducting their regular tests over-rode the cable box and caused it to stop recording for about 90 seconds. Not sure why it couldn't have continued to record while the test was displayed, but whatever.

This is the first really good look I've gotten at Chris.

This tour was really good for them, it gives him a chance to get more comfortable.

The good:
  • The band is in general much better spirits and everyone seems to just be working harder and with more enthusiasm.
  • CG was flawless in his execution, as usual, but seemed to just be going at it tougher or with more umph. Hard to describe, but a change. Compare last night with Paradiso DVD and it's just different. More RAW
  • CT actually being a lead guitarist, like actually doing some solos and stuff.
  • PD seems mostly the same except for more smiles and a little more swagger to his dance like presence
  • CS has great energy and is singing with a raw passion and growl that a lot of us want. He slayed White Discussion. Hands down the best song of the set in terms of performance. Live is positioning themselves to have more angst, grit and toughness rather than the melodic accuracy.
  • I did not stay up to watch Everclear but between Sponge, Filter and Live, Live without a doubt put on a higher quality show. It has nothing to do with me being a Live fan, I think anyone being remotely objective could see that Live was simply better live than Filter and Sponge. This is relevant because I still think they will get better as Chris gets more acclimated and comfortable.
  • Chris commented in the interview piece before they took the stage about how he thought it was off that the guys were so disconnected and removed from the creative process and that they were now a collaborative unit. This is something we all knew of course
  • Letting the crowd sing a lot of Lightning Crashes. This is, in my opinion, brilliant. The song isn't for the band, it's for the crowd. That song is epic and it's for those in attendance connecting to something 18 to 19 years ago. The band being the catalyst and letting the crowd connect with the chorus is a great way to keep that emotional attachment and keeping the focus on the SONG and not just the singer.

The bad
  • No new material was played, wasn't expecting much but really hoped "World" would have at least been played. They are keeping this material close to chest and probably for their own reason.
  • During one song (operation spirt perhaps) Chris awkwardly looked to CT on a couple of occasions, like he was wanting some direction or waiting for a decision to be made. I don't think it was anything serious, I'm guessing they were feeling out whether or not to play a bridge differently or do something performance wise and had decided that they'd make the decision in show. The video cameras caught this, maybe wouldn't have been seen in person.
  • I love Chris's grit and growl but I think he and the band have to be more conscious of how they execute it in songs. It doesn't fit some songs as good as others. It was perfect for White Discussion, but was a bit out of place in Operation Spirit. Until they get the new material out there they have to really on nothing but a legacy Live catalog, in doing so I don't think they can take this harder angst rock (that again I love) and apply to any Live song. Chris can be more delicate (for lack of a better word) and needs to exercise that appropriately. The acoustic set at the strand displays this.
  • Set list too short (a consequence of this tour)
  • I'd personally rather here the songs that weren't radio played. There is a much better songs that fit the attitude the band is projecting than tracks like All Over You. Heropsychodreamer, Stage, TDAOC, Rattlesnake would simply be better for this band. It's likely an issue that will be addressed with a proper headlining tour.

Oh, and before the Ed Lovers use my comments to be Anti-Chris or Pro-Ed.

If I had my choice and could wave a wand, I'd choose Chris over 2013 Ed without any hesistation. And that's admitting that I think Ed has a higher technical ceiling vocally. Chris is just a better fit for Live. Period.

A quick reply for now, I'll post more later once I have time to gather my thoughts and some more sleep.

I was at the show, recorded audio at the show and DVR'd the AXSTV broadcast. I'll watch the DVR tonight and post it as soon as I can. The show ran long, so the Everclear set got cut off my DVR recording. Once the video is posted I'll dive into my audio recording, I forgot the hat that I mount my mics to, so I am a bit concerned how the audio turned out.

As for the show, I agree with PurdueSteve's comments. The energy of the guys is off the charts, it reminds me of the TC/SS days.

Bottom line, I can't wait for the new album and subsequent tour.

I just finished watching the broadcast and holy shit. What a show. Shinn is a fantastic frontman.

I've got a 720p mp4 of the video, but brianblank might beat me to posting it. I would have already posted it, but before the concert there's an interview and I missed it on my first editing pass, so I had to re-cut and transcode the entire video.

It's going to be about 1gb, and it's been suggested by dangum that I multi-RAR it and post it on sendspace.

I can't post it tonight, but I'll have time tomorrow for certain.

As far as I'm concerned, every single Forum member here needs to watch it asap.

I'd have to say it was very well done but not the best performance this tour.

It was very good, but a bit tamer on the going crazy aspect!!

If people think this band is going through the motions............I guess you really are on an island with own meaning of what LIVE really is all about!!! Or, perhaps discovered and viewed LIVE when it was on the downward spiral post 2000.

If you choose not to like it all, fine, exist someplace where you can bemoan it in a free-mason like atmosphere.

Keep your eye on this mediafire folder: http://www.mediafire.com/?8jjj9868inleu

A multi-part .zip of the .ts files (VERY large files) of the Live set are uploading now. The upload should be complete in about 4 hours. I used 7-Zip to create the multipart Zip, http://www.7-zip.org/, it will be the best way to unzip/join the files.
