Local H were originally scheduled to play here in Columbus on 3/29 and the show got cancelled today. (read more here: http://news.radio.com/2013/03/21/mugged-ro...orrifying-tale/ )

ANYWAY, Ed Kowalczyk is playing the new Hollywood Casino here that night. Now, I declare myself TEAM CCP over this guy and I am not a fan of the way things went down when the guys parted ways. BUT i have nothing else to do that night and I would like to hear the classic LIVE songs, if he still sings them.

Because I have open taped Candlebox and Tonic at the new casino (check archive.org) I have become close with the floor supervisor there. I am fairly certain if Ed would give the OK, I could fly high on the 10ft stand again. Is there any chance in hell at that happening? Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

Or is this guy just not even worth seeing live? Is his band decent live? Ive heard Weiland's solo band compared to STP and that was a joke. Wondered if its the same w/ the Ed Kowalczyk band.

Any input is appreciated. Would it be too much wearing my TGF shirt to the show? nervous.gif

How is anyone supposed to know if Ed would allow you to record a show? If you want to see him go to the show - it's free.

There's also already a thread to discuss this show - http://www.fansoflive.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5021

I care. I'd love to hear a new Ed Kowalczyk recording, especially if they sound like your previous work. Ed's performing unreleased tracks at his shows so it's the perfect time to be out the taping.

I didn't respond because honestly I don't know whether Ed is cool with tapers. Your best bet would be to message Ed on Facebook if you really need to know whether it's cool to run a stand at the show. If the venue is fine with it then I wouldn't expect Ed to ask you to take it down but if he does just be all ninja like and go stealth. cool.gif

Given it's a free show, you've got nothing to lose. Hopefully you'll get a nice recording out of it and if not at least you can finally say you've seen Ed with his new band. Good luck!

If I wanted to record a show, how would I capture a nice crystal clear recording. Any suggestions as to recording device, etc?

Same question here.
Expecting +LIVE+ to come to the Netherlands one day (I hope pretty fast) I also would like to tape the concert.
Let's hear it from the experts.

I'd pick up a recorder like the Tascam DR-05 - it's under $80 at Amazon.

This recorder has built in mics, but I would definitely recommend getting some external mics along with a battery box/pre-amp. Maybe live2cd can chime in with some recommendations on that front.

I think I would just put money down on something at Best Buy and return it the next day.

External mic's work better?

I have no idea what a battery box pre amp is, I'll look into it.

What is the best way to "dress" the wires on me if I have to sneak em in?

It takes longer than 24 hours to learn how to use your equipment and how to get the best out of it.

Most definitely. You might be able to get away with the built in mics on a recorder if you're recording an Ed Kowalczyk acoustic show but if you're thinking about recording a loud rock show then they probably won't cut it.

When you use external mics, they can be powered by the recorder (called plug-in power). The problem is that depending on the type of music you're recording you may need additional power. That's where a battery box comes in. A pre-amp is similar to a battery box except it has additional features.

I'd recommend wearing a black long sleeved shirt. Run the mics down the front of your shirt and clip each mic onto your collar.

And then keep your yelling of "WOO HOO!" to a minimum. We've all heard those kind of recordings.

Forgot to mention, be sure to check this forum for all your taping needs.
http://taperssection.com/

live2cd: I know you didn't end up bringing your mic stand, but did you get a chance to find out Ed's opinion on tapers?

SJN1279: Do you have any idea on Ed's stance? Would you mind asking?
