I'm not a fan of Eddie K's brand of pop but I do appreciate a good pop song. Saw Rihanna on SNL last week and she sounded great. Her new song Diamonds stuck with me. I like it. Anyone else have any current pop songs they like?

Well I don't think Eddie K will be competing with Rihanna for listens anytime soon. Point is, a well executed pop song has the ability to stick with you whether you want it to or not. I'm not going to go out an purchase her new album but I won't mind the next time I hear that song. It's good. Of course, it will be overplayed to death and I'll get tired of it, but that's what happens to good pop songs. I doubt I'll ever hear anything off of The Garden ever again and I'm fine with that.

My bad. I hope I didn't get this thread killed.

On-topic...Rihanna has talent, which is nice. But there isn't much pop music I can get behind because it is all the same empty topics and it drives me nuts.

But I agree, a well executed one is a good listen at least for a bit. I don't really have any examples because I don't listen to it much at all but my wife will be playing something on now and then and I won't mind it.

Thanks for deleting, Dan. I don't care for that diamonds song but I am a fool for Call me Maybe. It was the song of the summer for sure. thumbsup.gif

Can we talk about pop music that is older?

Had to look that one up. The funny thing is I remembered seeing the video but didn't recognize the song. Guess it didn't stick with me too much. Older songs are game too. I was just thinking of things I hadn't heard, which is probably a lot since I don't listen to pop unless it happens to be on somewhere.

If we are talking about old songs, and I don't even know if this qualifies as pop - it's supposedly hip hop but I have no idea about shit like that (!) but this one comes to mind that grabbed me when I first heard it. Geez, this is embarrassing. Nelly, I dont' give a shit about but Tim McGraw was a nobody in Australia then and his voice sounded so hot (to me!), so I looked him up and he didn't look half bad either nod.gif

I found another one. This used to be played over and over when I worked for a radio station years ago. I swore I was gonna name my future son Jackie! But hubby wouldn't let me!

And this one, god I loved this song!

I have a few that I like. I just got Rhianna's new record. It's good, there's a few songs I really like. My my all time favorite pop star is Pink. She is by all means a pop star, but has a lot of rock influences. Her last concert tour she did a bunch of covers along with her original songs. She opened with Highway to Hell, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (my all time favorite song), Bohemian Rhapsody and something else I can't remember.

Here's a video
Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

And then there's my all time favorite Pink song, a duet she did with Steven Tyler called Misery

Misery

I can dig some Nelly, McGraw not so much. I'd say Nelly is a cross over hip hop/ pop artist. I like this one from the movie Training Day with Denzel Washington (bad ass movie if you haven't seen it). Song also features Joe Perry from Aerosmith. I can dig some No Doubt too. Saw them before they broke big with Tragic Kingdom. Back then they were way more Ska.
