As I was rocking my 3-week old son to sleep last night, I decided to play a few songs from SFBM. I was surprised that I liked it more than I remember. I've noticed that with V, BOP, and SFBM, every time I put them away for a while and then re-listen, I like them more.

Are these albums getting better with age for anyone else?

Regardless, though, I don't consider it "real Live" - I know V was a turning point and you can hear it in the album.

I get what you mean. Don't like them more though. It's fresh and the one listen is good, but I don't have the need to repeat it one more time. At least with SFBM. BOP and V are ok for a while. They both take me back to certain times where I listened to them nonstop for a while.

They certainly don't get better with age.

Now if you had asked about the first 3 albums, I would have agreed with you. They certainly do get better with age.

I have always liked SFBM. I really like the spiritual message of the album and it is a little poppy, but I am not against that per se, if it good.

But basically to answer you question, I think this means that we are getting old.

V really grew on me with time. TYL, SC, DE, Overcome, FMNBLE and HOL are ok. The problem with V is that the bad moments are really bad and the album is not cohesive for this reason. For example, I really like FMNBLE, a very different songs for them. I know Chad T. wrote about it and everything, but I still like the vibe. And after you hear Call me a fool. What? Completely out of place.

BOP is worse with time. So generic. Life marches on represents the album so well. A bland rock song with nothing really that catches you up. i do like SOD despite the bad writing, kind of a Weezer song there. Of course LID and Lighthouse are standouts. Raw Live there. I don't mind about heaven, but they put all the promotion efforts on this one and not on the rockier side. So Sad.

SFBM is worse with time. Catchy at times but it doesn't stand the test of time. Generic, always the same song structures. even the good ideas are destroyed by poor music or bad recording. I like Mystery ( thought Ed had it good in concert at times), Show (good idea not well recorded), Wings, Sophia and WDWGFH. My favorite being the last.

Good points, especially on V. There were some good ones but then, like you said, there were bad "WTF" moments when listening to the whole album. The ones I think are bad on all three albums never get better, I guess, but the ones that were borderline or somewhat like have improved over time in my listening opinion.

Being a dad makes you softer, right. Nothing you can do about it.

Congratulations on your newborn son by the way smile.gif

If being a dad would make me like SFBM and BoP I am just going to get a vasectomy right now.

But basically to answer you question, I think this means that we are getting old.

That's the answer. Me at age 16-17 who got into Live would never have gotten into SFBM. But now, at a much older age, I can listen to it and enjoy it even though its clearly not the same band.

I have said it a few times on this board, I'd prefer Live as they were. But I listen to a lot of different kinds of music and there is a place for substandard Live in my collection.

Gert, thanks. Funky, Lol. Mfitz, what you wrote is exactly how I feel (minus preference of old Live - I like Shinn-Live).

About having kids - it changes how you view the world and yourself. It's like taking off a pair of glasses with a bad prescription. Then you look around and you see all the things you used to like or dislike in a different way - usually a better way. And more than likely a softer way.

Once you see how innocent and joyful your kids are, and you realize everybody used to be that way, you get reallllllllllll soft on people.

I haven't heard enough Shinn-Live yet to say what I think. I'll need to hear the songs that are original to him. I downloaded his solo album to check him out, I wasn't a huge fan.

The 4 re-recorded songs were better with Ed, IMHO. That's old Ed of course, not current Ed. Even on the old stuff he definitely changed his delivery over the years.

But lets hear where they are going, rather than a re-hashing of where they have been. Then I will be able to form a better opinion.

No disrespect to Shinn, in case he secretly reads this site.

I just heard TSUFL acoustic (a superb version...absolutely perfect) and I was having this reflection. Do you think it could be the succes of this song and Dance with you in Europe that made Ed change? Because it was these songs that were huge in Europe. It clearly became more puppy after these singles.

No remember, he tried to go rap rock first and that failed.
