I'm the 1st person to say and understand everyone is different and everyone has different tastes. But as Live fans I'm really interested on feedback on how you can't like this song? I never understood why there was so much contempt for this disc, but yet such a affinity for the abortion that was V? I'm not stirring the hornets nest here, I'm really just curious. Like I Do came up on shuffle mode on my drive home and I cranked the shit out of it and loved it. So just wondering why so many people dismiss this song like it was Call me A Fool or some P.O.S. from SFBM.

OK, go....

People generally like "Like I Do", solely because it was a song that the band actually collaborated on. V is heavily disliked because it was an abortion. BOP was mostly the EK show, and the music suffered. Seriously, Heaven is a shitty song. As is Run Away. They were terrible singles, and were some of the final striking blows that killed Live. Like I Do would have actually been a good song to release, but that never happened.

I think the most of us on here agree that this is one of the best songs from BOP and a really great song from Live. I don't think any of us are dismissing it as a Call me a Fool or anything from SFBM.

Nice to see some love for LID. Usually when someone hears it they'll say to me, 'That was bad a$$..who was that?" And when I tell them Live they are in disbelief and usually reply with similar comments about how they'd still listen to Live if they played tunes like that. Which just proves the point I've seen posted by others that that song would've brought new people into or make some people return to the Live fold. Agreed, Heaven and Run Away released as singles killed any momentum before it started and we're striking blows. La da da da da was the final nail. Turns my stomach just writing it.

Kind of ironic that the beginning of that disc goes: "You don't need no friends". A very telling lyric of things to come indeed.

Yep OP, Most everyone here likes "Like I do". Lighthouse also has a lot of fans. I'm one of those V lovers too and I think CMaF and NK were SFBM quality. OK was also terrible. I didn't even like overcome while I am here. It is mostly Ed's attempt at rapping that hooks me when it comes to V. BoP doesn't have nearly enough rapping. no.gif

We all knew Live was completely f'd when this song wasn't released as a single.

Outside of it and Lighthouse this album is garbage. I would argue at least though that Heaven has a decent enough hook and that helped it be a minor hit. It wasn't a Live song though.

Heaven was a major hit for the band worldwide, and the BOP tour that coincided with the single was a sell out in the majority of cities. Heaven is also actually one of my favorite LIVE songs and it holds up today IMHO. Just because you don't like it, doesn't make it a "shitty song".

I think the issue with Heaven is that, in the grand scheme of things (the scope of work for Live), Heaven is a shitty song.

In the scope of just BoP is was a good song that appealed to a completely different and new fanbase for Live. Just imagine White, Discussion being played on Ellen.

That is the truth about Heaven.

Heaven is not a song that personifies Live. It was a song that sums up EK's fall, and was one of the final striking blows that killed Live at the time.

The song sucks. It's pure sappy pop trash. I'm not shocked that it is one of your favorite Live songs.

Like I Do has been spoken of here in many circles as a track that would have made Live relevant if it was released as the first single from BOP.

I've touted this in a few other older threads.

the link above is proof how it would have been received by fans (in this case someone not a fan of Live)

Why did we get Heaven? Run Away? No need to discuss that again but Ed took this right from Tom Lord Alge's miami south beach studio right to the radio for talk up.

WTF??

This is objective truth.

-Obvious, basic, pop/praise chorus chord progression - check
-By the numbers song structure - check
-Cheesy, thin lyrics - check
-Entire song playing to the chorus hook - check

I like some pure sappy pop trash a bit, so this isn't necessarily a diss, I just don't like seeing Live doing it. I remember seeing Chad stomping to this song on one of the light night shows and realizing that one of my favorite bands was done making great music.

All you have to know about Live is that this is that last Live tune that casual listeners remember.

I assume the label was trying to broaden the appeal of the band into adult contemporary since they were getting older. It's common knowledge that Live as we all love it owes at least part of its demise to bad label management.
