Just wondering if you had a favorite or a performance of that song that you think should be considered the best live performance of LJ over any other?

Mine has to be the Saturday Night Live performance. There was such an explosive energy in that particular performance and just about every note was dead on accurate. In fact, I think that version rivals the album version... maybe even surpasses it.

My favourite is 1999 Flanders Expo, pre-falsetto Ed at his best and Railo is there for the strings but not too loud in the mix thumbsup.gif

I've heard that one. I like it a lot. Is there video of it? Part of the appeal of the SNL performance is that there was a visual to go along with it.

I just think I prefer the SNL performance, even if it was just the audio. Maybe it was just that the album had just come out and (unless I'm mistaken) that was their first televised performance of any songs off the album. The performance was fresh, crisp, tight, and explosively energetic. It was to my eyes and ears, anyway...

...and looky what I found:

If Railo is playing in the version you are going to suggest, I'm sorry but it will be automatically disqualified.

I am aware of the SNL performance, and it was great. I'm just making a general statement before someone goes and suggests a fuck awful version with Railo and his shitty synthesizers blaring.

Aso... yeah, not much a fan of synths. Unless it can be done tastefully and minimally.

Couldn't agree more - the SNL version was simply raw, the way LJ was supposed to be. I'll never forget how crazy/intense Ed was during those two performances (LJ, Hero); I remember watching it live.

I would also have to add that the Intimate & Interactive performance of LJ is also fantastic.

MrSheptical, thanks so much for that snl video.

after as much thought as I can put into it right now (and immediately following a viewing of said video) the SNL version is certainly top 3 versions ever. I've seen a few live versions that were amazing, but I can't pin them down right now.
it's just such a truly wonderful song.
mind blowing.

Seeing old videos like this makes me sad.

It's really like they have no idea they are playing on SNL or in front of anyone. They are just playing.
