In 1998, Live performed a small number of low key/surprise shows to test out new tracks that were to appear on The Distance to Here. Many of the tracks didn't make the album and some tracks changed names eg. "To the Great One" presumably became "Stood Up for Love".

One track that I haven't been able to find any information on, is "Ishta". According to a review on the Chad Gracey fan site, it was played on May 28, 1998 at the Viper Room in LA.

I know it's a long time ago, but did anybody attend this show and if so what can you remember about this track?

all i know is that "Ishtar" is a mega-budget hollywood movie from the 80's that was also a mega-ass flop and embarrassment for everyone involved (Warren Beaty, Dustin Hoffman and some hack female director who took on more than she could handle)! Ishtar is a goddess of love and sex and all that shit.

You're right Pokey, I'd say it seals the deal on a lot of those discussions too. Then again, anyone who couldn't hear how Live's music declined/changed once Ed started writing everything is just fooling themselves. Does this site have a similar listing for other albums?

As far as Ishtar, Wash the Blood Away, and the New City, I WANT TO HEAR THOSE DANG SONGS!!!!

After looking at that it is so clear that Ed is the writer of all of Live's material. uhoh.gif

'The Proverbs of the Company' is the one gem in all the works that is probably the most rare and from what CT said in his letter response/blog last year the most prized for any Live collector.

Also, never saw this one mentioned until this new link:

'Before the mind' appears to be the DOAD demo title. Called 'works of Public Affection'in both application titles.

Something new learned all the time. Thats what makes this board great. It's not about sales figures and $$$

Not to pick a scab, but makes you wonder why said artist wanted all the compositional credit to go to him instead of the entire band after so many years, after the success was attained. Makes you wonder of that human selfish phenonomenon eh?

I think it's a known track from the TDTH era (released or unreleased) that we already heard of, but had this/another title at the start. Because I think we would have heard of it in Chad's reply if it was something totally new and unheard for us.

This thread makes me excited about a b-side & a=outtakes release again!

Long time I thought: if Live didn't release tracks, it has a reason, it might not be as good as the albums.
But if you read Chad's long blog, he talks about how V could have been amazing, but it just ended up in a nighmare for them. The pre-/early V songwriting was the best Ed ever wrote, he said.

Also, Hold Me Up is the ultimate proof that the stuff Live left off the albums over the year, doesnt need to be worse then the album stuff and will be in some cases even better!

Bring it on, bring it on!

I'm starting to think they just need to do this right. Release a box set wih all the unreleased trakcs in chronological order.

Throw in some rare pictures and writings to complete the set.

Unfortuntley, I don't think that would ever happen.
