I recently found a VHS with some bits and pieces I taped in the 90's - and the jewel among them was this awesome performance of 'I Alone' from the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards that as far as I know has yet to be circulated in the Live community.

The quality isn't great (I think it's at least a 2nd generation copy) but it is without a doubt one of my favourite performances of the song - CT is in especially good form, this was recorded a couple of days prior to that sensational Jones Beach show OutToDry recently uploaded.

Enjoy!

PS> The folder also contains a 320 kbps mp3 version from a different source that I downloaded from here sometime ago.

Thanks for this. It was a great performance by the band!

<technical talk>
When I encode footage that has come from VHS tape, I either add a black mask around the edge of the picture (to mask the head switiching noise at the bottom of the frame) or sometimes do an even crop all around the picture and zoom in.

Usually the head switching noise is hidden by overscan on a regular CRT tv, but with LCD and Plasma screens it's clearly visible..
</technical talk>

Carry on... smile.gif

Ha, I speak-a-your-language thumbsup.gif

I initally thought it'd be best to upload the non-re-encoded version, but it was easy enough to crop it without losing much/any quality (not that it was that great to begin with!).

So here's a PAL format mpeg2 version (25fps, VBR, 9200kb/s) without the switching noise. I'll upload it to youtube as well for those who don't want to down 200+mb...

I Alone (corrected mpg) part 1
I Alone (corrected mpg) part 2

Cool. I don't re-encode video that's already in the MPEG-2 format as (like you said) re-encoding results in a loss of quality.

Is anybody else having issues with these new files? I've downloaded them twice (on different computers) and both times I get an file corruption error when extracting them with WinRAR.

Damn.

Pat is simply meanly cool in this vid. And Taylor, losing his sunglasses during the tremendous pre-stomp, stopping to play catching the googles.

Daaaaaaaamn, awesome........

Damn mediafire - I've re-uploaded them in smaller pieces, let me know if any more issues:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I've also uploaded to youtube for those who don't want to download 200+mb (though the youtube encoder has destroyed the audio quality):

Hmm, just saw that someone else uploaded a superior VHS rip of this performance a couple of months back eh.gif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaq0rXTo8nM

It appears to be a slightly different broadcast, Pat throwing his bass right at the end is missing shrug.gif

I have ripped and uploaded the flv file for anyone who wants this alternative source:
