Just found this:

Grace is currently at #27 on the Christian Rock chart in the US. It debuted 3 weeks ago. Very cool!

Don't want this to sound jaded... I wish him all the success in the world but...

27 on the Christian Rock chart is not cool. For several reasons:

A) He's a mainstream rock star. Why does he need to chart on Christian charts now to be successful? And charting 27 on a relatively minor chart that few people really care about is not particularly impressive.

B) Objectively, such a major artist coming into the Christian rock arena should be charting way higher after three weeks. It's probably Ed Kowalczyk and a bunch of people you've never heard of on that chart unless you go to church every week.

exactly...for a guy who used to churn out top 10 modern rock hits, #27 on christian rock chart isnt only unimpressive, but its relatively embarassing

Knowing the Christian music industry, a guy like Ed becoming a Christian and releasing Christian music should have sent shockwaves through the industry. These "conversion stories" are huge sellers in that genre.

I'm surprised that hasn't happened, but I think that could be attributed to him not signing with a Christian label (one of the subsidiaries of Essential would have been just fine). If he continues to pursue the Christian music path he may find himself wanting to go that route as there is a lot of money to be had (and that's what drives all musicians, right Nick?).

Very good post Funky. That certainly would be a buzz. Like when Darius Rucker was wildly successful doing some country solo albums. You don't hear squat with Ed.

As Funky implied, the bands that reach the top of the Christian charts are typically signed to Christian labels. Just like any other chart, you need the necessary connections to make an impact.
I would guess that Ed could sign to a Christian label in the future if he wants to top the chart. As of now he is working to three formats (Rock, Alternative, and Christian).

Some bands I never heard of on the chart, but others are pretty mainstream: (Switchfoot, Reliant K, Skillet, Owl City).

On a side note, why is going to church every week considered a negative?

Jaybb wasn't trying to be negative on going to church. He was stating that christians who practice a bit (as they do in the south), are more atune to the Christian music chart.

He said that people that don't go to church probably haven't heard of any of the christian bands. Where did he say anything negative about going to church. Stop making shit up buddy.

It came across negative to me. Like you wouldn't know any of these artists unless you were lame enough to go to church every week. Either way, I'm pretty sure that they don't play music from Christian bands at church. The only way you would know these bands would be if you listened to Chrisian radio stations.

Nick we all know about your powers of perception. I think ever since you picked the Live split you have let that "Nick was right!" thing go to your head because I think you've been so fucking far off the mark with everything since.

I was just responding to the below comment:

Maybe you should stop spamming Ed threads, and go back to the TGF side of things?

Who's spamming?, You've been fingered as being the spammer.

I am simply offering my take to the conversation and follow up to Funky's observation. Listen buddy if this is all you can reply with, then I am truly sorry for you. You act like 14 year old.

I didn't attack Ed in this thread. You only answer with what you feel safe with.
