So I hear that there's 10 thousand marching through downtown Toronto and that all kinds of transit is shut down.
Also a bunch of anarchist assholes are off to start something up like they did in Turin etc.

Any news from the street?

Ostensibly they are marching about the summit. In reality it's just an excuse for a bunch of hypocritical violent sociopathst to smash stuff.

I'm just outside downtown. I wouldn't dare venture down there. Almost got stuck in Oshawa yesterday when they shut down GO. I'm not from this province, it was my first time in Oshawa so I was not very happy. Luckily some of the buses were still running so I managed to get home (although it took 2 hours longer.)

It's shameful, embarassing and disgusting to see what's going on downtown. I've been watching the news and talking to people and I still haven't learned one cause people are protesting for.

My cousin was in the peaceful protest with her baby She's a social worker. There were all kinds of causes that were peacefully protested and a lot of groups that just wanted to be recognized. There's a gallery of them at flikr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/85279306@N00/...ith/4736639589/

Then there were the little anarchist-wannabes. Who weren't really protesting anything.

And nobody should ever have to be stuck in Oshawa!

Unfortunatly this happens everywhere when one of these summits are held. There are the people who protest for a reason and the people who use it as an excuse to cause trouble. The ones who have a reason generally do it peacefully because well, there's no point in it being violent, that isn't going to help with their message. Total shame for the ones that ruin it.

I have one cousin who claims it's all agents provocateurs. He's driving everyone nuts, including the one in the demonstration yesterday. She went down alone today to be in the demo to free people from a detention centre. (She calls them "fellow activists". I think it's just random unfortunates picked up by police). The police have now taken to getting agressive.

Most of what I hear now is people whining about being in the "processing" centres. I really don't have any sympathy for them, whether they were innocent bystanders, "peaceful" protesters or criminals. There was an easy way to avoid being put in jail if you have a problem with that -- stay the eff away, or at the very least, cooperate with the police. Everyone knew what could happen if you wandered around downtown (especially after Saturday's show.) They made the choice to risk being put in jail, deal with it.

Maybe next time instead of jail they can send them to Oshawa with no GO Transit. tongue.gif
